Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking multiple Per-Diem Medical Interpreters for the School of Health Professions to work at the Health Outreach Practice Experience (HOPE) Clinic within the Physician Assistant Studies and Practice Department. The Medical Interpreters will provide Spanish-English interpretation and translation for patient care. Interpretation and translation must comply with medical office policies and procedures including but not limited to professional behavior and patient confidentiality.
The shift is a half or full day between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm on Wednesdays only
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
Works with practitioners who are not able to speak Spanish and are providing services to patients who are not able to speak English.Translates verbal and written medical information precisely and accurately from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.Interprets and translates for patient care including intake of demographics and medical and social information.Interacts with other providers or staff, external to the office over the phone or virtual device.Communicates with strong interpersonal skills and patient-centered orientation.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of a vaccine approved or authorized for emergency use in the United States or a vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fluency in Spanish and English.An understanding of diverse cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds, along with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
Training in medical interpreting or equivalent experience.Experience in medical interpretation, preferred.
