A minimum of three (3) years of experience in management of English Learners (EL), refugee, newcomer and immigrant community programs are preferred. Incumbent must be thoroughly knowledgeable in developing and delivering coordinated services for the educational and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) needs of refugees and asylees.SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations that have the potential to affect ELs, refugees and asylees. Incumbent must possess strong cultural competency skills and must be able to work with a diverse population of families and staff. This position requires effective oral and written communication skills. Incumbent must have the ability to build capacity for parent leadership in Austin ISD and work with community groups to engage and support parents as well as identify key stakeholders in the community to meet the unique needs of refugee families. This position requires strong collaborative skills to address a changing landscape of needs. Incumbent must have the ability to analyze detailed information; coordinate projects and programs; work with others in a team environment; organize and maintain records; and manage time and resources effectively and efficiently. Incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to prepare, receive and provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students.JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: This position is responsible for the coordination, management and supervision of the Refugee Family Support program.Incumbent will provide leadership and educational training as well as basic communication between schools, families, district staff, parents and others in the area of refugee/asylee parent support in order to improve the educational success of children.Document Name: AP20083 – Refugee Family Support Coordinator Page 1 of 3ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide vision, leadership and oversight in planning, building, implementing and evaluating all Refugee Family SupportServices Office initiatives and duties.Supervise and lead Refugee Family Liaisons in supporting students and their families at 130 campuses.Serve as support lead for K-12 campuses to address all educational and SEL needs of refugees and asylees (i.e., registration, coding, and tracking, Special Education/504, mental health resource mapping, parent/teacher meetings, campus events, district-wide events, service-brokering & language access).Manage all programmatic and reporting requirements for Refugee School Impact Federal Grant (RSI). This includes writing program and fiscal details for yearly grant, tracking and reporting all measurable documentation on an ongoing basis, serving as the primary liaison for United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), managing all audit- related matters and troubleshooting grant-related matters (i.e., communication, changes in funding, etc.).Operate Caritas of Austin Interpretation and Translation Services. Duties include: o Renewal of contract with key stakeholders o Timely management of interpretation/translation requests o Track all expenses related to contract o Invoice Caritas twice/month (1st/15th) o Recruit and retain interpretation/translation talent o Troubleshoot all interpretation/translation servicesServe as the primary liaison for resettlement agencies (Refugee Services of Austin and Caritas): o Support all newly-arrived school-aged students o Attend all quarterly meetings to keep abreast of current best practices in resettlementWork collaboratively with a wide array of nonprofit, faith-based, educational and philanthropic organizations to ensure that refugee/asylee students and their family’s needs are met.Serve as primary liaison for University of Texas Middle Eastern Studies Department Mentorship Program.Arrange for staff development regarding best practices for working with refugees & asylees and provide materials and other resources to department/district staff.Facilitate cross-boundary relationships between school sites and district departments to support the integration, effectiveness and efficiency of academic and learning supports, services and resources to school sites and community partners.Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort if required.PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a normal office or school setting. This position requires sitting, standing, lifting, and may require travel to campuses. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports directly to the Secondary Director for Multilingual Education.
