Job Description : CLOSING: Continuously Open with Weekly Reviews
POSITION: Short Notice ECE Assistant
SALARY: $14.65, per hour
REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor
LOCATION: Reservation Wide
BASIC FUNCTIONS: This is a Non-Exempt position. Incumbent of this position will assist one or more teachers in the direct care and supervision of preschool-aged children in an early childhood education facility. Incumbent will also assist with play oriented learning activities. Incumbent will drive school bus to transport children to and from center daily.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Training:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED preferred or ability to obtain within (6) six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires basic knowledge of the goals, principles, of and practices of implementing age appropriate child development and guidance in a pre-kindergarten environment.
Requires basic knowledge of play-oriented subjects and learning sufficient to assist children with individual and group activities.
Requires basic knowledge of child mobility, cognitive and hygiene needs.
Requires basic knowledge of arithmetic, spelling. language and reading sufficient to assist pre-k students with reading games ang projects.
Requires knowledge of and conversational competency in a second language.
Requires sufficient human relation skills to work cooperatively and exercise patience and sensitivity when interacting with students staff and parents.
Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to move about classroom, common area and playgrounds, assist with presentation and reach classroom materials.
Requires the sufficient hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students.
Requires the ability to maintain a substance free lifestyle for the last year and continue maintain during employment and be willing to sign and adhere to the tribes substance abuse policy and heads starts healthy lifestyle policy in addition to submitting to program testing procedures.
Requires the ability to clear a background check and fingerprint checks including State, tribal and external clearance and not be listed on the Sex Offender Registry and Child Abuse and Neglect database.
Requires the ability to perform the essential responsibilities and work tasks of the position.
Requires the ability to understand and interpret teacher’s instruction in order to work with small groups of children including those with specials needs.
Requires the ability to understand the needs and difference of children and to reach and motivate them.
Requires the ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with behavior problems.
Requires the ability to perform clerical and classroom support duties with minimum supervision.
Requires the ability to work in a classroom setting, presenting minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
Requires the ability to perform work indoors and outdoors in a classroom or playground environment engaged in work of a moderately active nature.
Requires the the ability to stand, walk and sit upright on a floor-level surface for extended periods of time(greater than 1 hour) and to lift push and pull light to medium objects on an occasional basis (10-50lbs).
Requires near visual acuity to read and write printed materials and observe the activities of children.
Requires personal appearance, grooming, attitudes and language patterns that provide a suitable example to children.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
