Conditions of Employment:
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as having received a booster shot six months after the Pfizer and Moderna primary series and two months after the Johnson & Johnson primary series.
Job Description:
This position will provide lead support and coordination for every aspect of the Tongass NF Petersburg Ranger District Recreation Trails program, primarily working on Trail maintenance and reconstruction. Other duties include assisting in Wilderness, developed recreation, and cabin duties. Candidates will be asked to work on trail maintenance in and out of Wilderness and to help in the completion of wetland trail construction, Developed recreation site maintenance, Wilderness monitoring and Cabin maintenance.
The work week will typically be Monday through Friday, with 8 hours per day of work. Occasional weekend work may be necessary. Conditions often require working in cool, rainy weather as the position is predominately outdoors.
Compensation amounts:
$1,500 – RT travel allowance to work site and back
$280 – weekly living allowance
$200 – boot allowance
$500 – duty related travel
AmeriCorps eligibility (Education award of $2,360)

Petersburg Ranger District is located in SE Alaska on the Tongass National Forest in the middle of a temperate rain Forest
Training Provided
Bear safety, fixed wing/helicopter, 1st aid/CPR and radio use. OJT with a variety of tools/tasks.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Education: learning anything from primitive tool us to power tools. Rec. opportunities include; kayaking, hiking, fishing and wildlife viewing.
