Job Summary:
Reporting to the Accessibility Specialist, the Accessibility Coordinator assists to serve the program needs of the targeted population of students with disabilities in the Accessibility Services program. The Coordinator will meet with students, complete intakes, and assist the Accessibility Specialist as necessary. They will provide generalist academic advising, career and educational counseling, as well as other services which enhance student academic success with a focus on assisting students with disabilities in transitioning to the postsecondary environment; supporting their introduction to college; progression to degree; and graduation transition and with appropriate accommodations and modifications necessary to ensure equal access.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma
One year’s experience working with students/persons with disabilities or other related experience.
Must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.
Ability to learn, interpret, apply, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities in higher education.
Desired Qualifications:
One year’s experience in a higher education advising, tutoring, counseling, or coaching students.
Experience in a higher education accessibility program.
Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills with a positive and empathetic approach.
Experience with management of confidential records and personal counseling.
Other Qualifications:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
Proof of COVID vaccination is required
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
1. Complete intakes, coach, and advise students with disabilities (50%)
Provides guidance and counseling for students with disabilities to support them from their transition to college through completion. Provides timely outreach to struggling students and offers support and resources, including referrals to other campus services when necessary.
Review physician/psychologist certifications for ADA-status eligibility and determine appropriate accommodations. Ensure proper documentation according to federal, state, and local regulations.
Complete intakes to ensure the accurate and timely notification of appropriate faculty and staff (by written correspondence) of student’s ADA-statuses and approved accommodations, as well as tracking and managing confidential information regarding disabled students in Banner and other systems.
Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and uphold policies and procedures that represent the best interest of both the student and the university according to current regulations.
2. Assist with Accessibility Services Office Operations (30%)
Works with the Accessibility Specialist to collaborate with faculty and other campus partners to promote inclusivity and ensure ADA compliance including ongoing workshops and trainings regarding accessibility and academic support topics to campus community.
Manages Accessibility services email inbox, intake appointments, student schedules, and other day to day office operations.
3. Academic Coaching Program (10%)
Works with academic coaches to plans, coordinate, conduct and evaluate academic success and strategic learning programming for students with disabilities.
Meet regularly (ideally weekly) with them for group in-service training, progress check-ins, case discussions, and/or one-on-ones.
4. Implement and Maintain Case Management Software (5%)

Contributes to strategic initiatives within the Center for Academic Success
Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
Assists with seasonal peaks.
