Job Description : About Us: Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit organization compelled by God’s love to fight the world’s greatest injustices. We fight injustice in two primary ways: through our expanding anti-human trafficking work and by caring for orphaned and abandoned children. We currently work throughout Asia and Africa, with our first North American pilot projected to launch in early 2021.
Position Type: Full Time or Part Time; Support-Raised* or Volunteer; Stateside (Alaska)
If hired, the candidate will be required to raise financial support to cover his/her own salary, benefits, and expenses. Raising support is a key example of the body of Christ supporting its members and joining in the fight against injustice. LJI will provide administrative and prayer support throughout the process, as well as guidance and resources to build up a support base. Please prayerfully consider whether you may be called to step out in faith and raise support for this position.
Transit Monitoring Overview: It is estimated that there are more than 40 million slaves in the world today more than at any time in history. Most trafficking victims are subjected to the worst conditions and several of the most horrific crimes, including deception, kidnapping, rape, torture, and enslavement. Traffickers often target the young, uneducated, naive, and innocent. Selling a story of hope to those most desperate for it, they use deception to gain control and then maintain control through acts of violence. The scale of the problem, the gravity of the crimes involved, and the vulnerability of its victims combine to make human trafficking and the slavery it engenders perhaps the greatest injustice in the world today.
Transit monitoring attacks trafficking at the most strategic moment while it is in the process of occurring, but before victims have been exploited or enslaved. It takes someone who was being actively trafficked or at high risk of being trafficked and prevents it. It is tangible, measurable, and has a very high impact on the dollar.
Position Overview: LJI plans to pilot transit monitoring in the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). The airport serves over 5 million passengers annually. Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is the main destination for village travelers to obtain health care, professional services, and household shopping. There are several events that increase travel into Anchorage throughout the year from local Alaskan communities. Anchorage is also a major crossroads for many international flights. The known problem of human trafficking in Alaska and the necessity of air travel to get in and out of the towns across Alaska potentially places victims and suspects squarely at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport at some point. That is where the Transit Monitors will intercept and rescue the victims and work with the Airport Police to investigate the suspects.
We are seeking Transit Monitors to watch for signs of trafficking at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. When these signs, or red flags, are identified, our Monitors will initiate a conversation to question the suspected victim and trafficker. If they conclude that the potential victim really is being trafficked, Transit Monitors will attempt to”intercept” the victim and persuade her/him to alter their travel plans.
You will be a good fit for this position if you are passionate about fighting injustice if you take initiative and always find a way when implementing tasks, if you are attentive to detail, and if you are goal-oriented and able to complete tasks to the end. You will need to be able to work within strict boundaries in the airport, endure frustration and difficulty at times, be able to easily adapt to changes in your environment, and remain respectful of authority under all circumstances. It is the ideal role for someone who is diligent in their approach to work and administration; someone who is highly relational, with the ability to engage with people from all backgrounds; and someone who is honest, kind, humble, and purpose-driven.
This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska, and reports to the Anchorage Airport Transit Monitoring Project Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The primary role of the Transit Monitor will be to:

Targeted awareness (i.e. developing relationships with strategic people in transit areas to create High-Value Contacts who might help identify human trafficking cases)
Building relationships with police to help potential victims file cases and pursue arrests of suspects

Mature Christian faith
A broken heart for injustice in the world today (particularly human trafficking)
Boldness; strong interpersonal skills
