The Job
We’re looking for an associate producer to join Conviction, serialized narrative podcast that focuses on crime and justice. The AP will be involved with every step of the show including development, research, reporting and producing episodes. You will be keen to develop your skills in investigative journalism and serialized storytelling. This is a highly collaborative project; you’ll be involved in pitching, story development, field producing, writing and editing. Other responsibilities include helping to prepare the host for interviews, assisting with scripts, and cutting and audio using ProTools editing software.
This is a role for someone who is passionate about serialized storytelling, keen to develop their skills, and with a keen eye for a story.
What You’ll Do
Brainstorm, develop and shape ideas for series
Work closely with host and producers to identify sources, subjects and interviews
Track down court documents, submit public records requests, find and secure archival tape
Plan and execute field producing and reporting trips in collaboration with host and supervising producers
Work with producers to find, pre-interview and book guests
Organize audio assets; selecting strongest tape with other team members
Contribute to group edits, offering ideas and suggestions for improving drafts
Direct host voicing and edit tracks
What You’ll Bring
A minimum of one year of experience producing audio for radio or podcast
An ability to listen to raw tape and identify the details, plot points, and the need-to-hear moments that make a story
Great taste and an eye and ear for a good story
Love of narrative structure and genre conventions (all genres, not just crime)
A love of collaboration and teamwork
Bonus points if you are familiar with ProTools
