$5,251.00 per month (WS-09)

Employment Opportunities in Temporary Positions

Some vacant positions may be temporary. Temporary positions may be extended year to year, dependent upon funding and departmental needs. Making yourself available for temporary positions increases your employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities. A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months. Once a temporary employee, you would be eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits as afforded to an employee in a permanent position, with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Summary:

Supervises and participates in a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of buildings, residences, and other structures and in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities housed in such structures; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently.

Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements :

Experience and Training: Six (6) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work of which two (2) years shall have been as a fully competent worker, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Knowledge of: Basic practices and methods in the repair of buildings, including safety procedures; common tools, equipment and materials used in the carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical trades; electro-mechanical appliances used in homes and other buildings.

Ability to: Plan, lay out, assign and review the work of other skilled building maintenance workers; determine the need for building repairs; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; read blueprints and sketches; estimate time and materials needed to perform maintenance and repair jobs, and keep records and make reports; make mechanical repairs to electrical and plumbing equipment, appliances and facilities housed in buildings; understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Driver’s License Requirement: Some positions require Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license to drive in the State of Hawaii.

NOTE: To receive credit, you must submit a clear copy of your driver’s license. A conditional/instructional permit to drive is not acceptable.

Lift/Carry Requirement: Some positions required lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and lift/carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).

Selective Certification:

1. Valid driver’s license. Please mail a copy (or attach a scanned copy) of your license immediately upon applying.

2. Lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and lift/carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).
