Job Description : The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Identification Section serves as the repository for New York City fingerprints, palm prints, and criminal history. The Identification Section also seal youth and adult records and assists with the identification of deceased persons (DOA) and serve as a liaison to the New York State Department of Criminal Justices Services (DCJS) regarding criminal record history and operates the New York City Police Department’s Biovault system.

The selected Fingerprint Technician Trainees will be responsible for:

Taking fingerprints of persons arrested or convicted of criminal offenses, applying for licenses, and of candidates seeking employment and promotion;Classifying fingerprints in accordance with established methods and procedures, and searching fingerprint databases for the purpose of comparing fingerprints with any prior fingerprints on fileAssisting other law enforcement personnel in obtaining information regarding criminal histories, arrest reports and other related information
Minimum Qual Requirements

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

excellent interpersonal, customer services skills,
a strong commitment to excellent and attention to detail,
strong multitasking and prioritizing skills,
ability to pay attention to details,
ability to have effective working relationships with peers and staff in team environment, ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to a wide variety to tasks and function, ability to change.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
