Job Description : Role and Responsibilities:

This position is primarily responsible assisting the Fishmeal Engineer/Head Operator with proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Fishmeal plant’s equipment and machinery. Ensure compliance of all State, Federal and WSI regulations/policies pertaining to operation, quality control and safety.

Specific duties include:
Maintain proper operation, maintenance, and repair of the 800 ton/day Atlas Design Fish Meal Plant. Can accomplish this independently.
Some knowledge of machinery overhaul.
Supervise fishmeal staff.
Assist with projects.
Inventory parts and materials.
Proficient in monitoring the control board (cooking and drying temperatures, processing tank levels and temperature, speeds, amp meters and pressure gauges) and to record those values hourly for future references.
Competent in hourly fish meal sampling and able to perform moisture test and record the results onto the daily shift form.
Responsible to make necessary adjustments to ensure good product quality.
Responsible for start up / shut down in coordination with another operator.
Clear verbal and written communication of all actions taken during the shift for the next crew that takes over.
Responsible to inform management or supervisor before any atypical adjustments are made on machinery.
Proficient in periodic checks on cooker, including discharge side of the screw press and sight glass, to ensure the right temperature and proper completion of cook.
Can open and clean centrifuges (fish oil separator) during regular clean ups, if necessary.
Can monitor Critical control points and record product temperatures, operation of the cooler and shaker screens (to ensure proper separation), and sanitation on the HAACP every 2 hours.
Able to physically check levels, pressures, temperatures from secondary gauges that are located on each of the units.
Can perform the daily greasing the center bushings and bearings on all machinery. Weekly greasing of all machinery, and record on respective lubrication form. Check gear oil levels on all equipment and record. Performed in Operator 1 absence.
Knowledgeable of procedures to clean and sanitize wet side floor two times per day.
Understands Rinsing procedures of screw press two times daily (10pm-11pm and 4am-5am), applies to night shift.
Understands change frequency and dilution percentage of sanitizer in foot baths.
Ensure doors are always closed. Be aware of surroundings and report unauthorized visitors to security or management.
Awareness of 2 hours check hand sanitizers are working correctly and record for HAACP.
Able to clean the cooker, screw press, decanters, screw conveyors, processing tanks and disinfect the floor at the completion of clean up.
Review all steps of the HAACP process and to make corrective action if needed.
Responsible to clearly record in writing what has been done to machines, processing tanks, screw conveyors and pipe lines after regular clean ups.
Check chlorinator and coordinate with QC.
Assure correct coding on meal bags.
Responsible to replace bone meal bags when filled and place correct information on labels and forms.
Allows follow proper safety procedures, including lock out / tag out. Must be able to identify, correct and report safety hazards.
Other duties as assigned.

The noise level in the work environment of the plant requires hearing protection and/or personal safety equipment, including eye protection.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Must have a strong awareness of surroundings.
Must be mechanically inclined and familiar with the use of basic hand tools.
Personal tools are required.
Pleasant and professional manner in dealing with co-workers, supervisors, employees, outside agencies, and vendors.
Prompt arrival and attendance. Must be able to function as part of a team with co-workers, supervisors and other departments.
Ability to communicate in the English language, comprehending, speaking, reading and writing in English. Handwriting must be legible and neat.
Ability to follow instructions.

A Background check is performed on all new hires and re-hires.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
First ninety (90) days of employment is considered Probationary.
Must be proficient in the ability to understand, speak, write and read the English language.
