Job Description : POSITION SUMMARY-The TS Technician is primarily responsible for end user support of County employees’ technology related needs. TS Technicians must have strong customer service skills, with the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. TS Technicians should be able to adequately manage time and, with provided resources, complete assigned tasks. TS Technicians must have a working knowledge of workstations, laptops, printers, and a variety of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.). TS Technicians must also possess a working knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office and the ability to learn other internal applications in a timely manner. Responsibilities also extend into working with both servers and networks, as skills in these areas are acquired. The TS Technician regularly encounters multiple interrupts and changing priorities. TS Technicians are cross trained on major County systems and networks as priority and opportunity arise. Support is provided by troubleshooting and correcting hardware, software, network and operational problems. It is also expected that the TS Technician will be entrusted with rotating “on call” assignments during evenings and weekends.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. Employee must comply with all County and department policies, procedures, WAC’s, or other regulatory bodies.Examples of User Assistance: Providing end users direct support and/or assisting them through corrective procedures in operating their workstations and/or laptops.Troubleshooting printer issues.Provide support to users with automated systems and specialized applications.Examples of System Installations: Building individual workstations from scratch and/or imaging systems on a large scale.Deploying workstations, including making proper cable connections, installing and configuring software.Testing repaired workstations that have been redeployed and/or reconfigured.Assisting in cabling and making switch, router and server connections.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and LICENSING-To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.RequiredWorking knowledge of Windows client operating systems, legacy to current.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, legacy to current.Working knowledge of enterprise environments, scaled from small to medium business networks.Working knowledge of business hardware, (workstations, laptops, smartphones, tablets and printers).Type at least 30wpm.Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.Familiarity with various diagnostic hardware and applications as they apply to assigned tasks.A demonstrated ability to work in a stressful, fast paced, interrupt driven environment.Ability to troubleshoot a variety of problems under pressure.Not less than 3 years of actual work experience in the IT field. Considerations will be made for a combination of related work experience and/or training/education applicable to the IT field.PreferredGeneral understanding of IP networks, switches, routers, patch panels, cabling.NET+ Certification, CCENT, A+ CertificationExperience with OS imaging procedures;Experience with a variety of hardware and software diagnostic tools.PHYSICAL ABILITIES / WORKING CONDITIONS-Work is performed in multiple environments including an office/workshop with computer workstation as well as at personal computer workstations in various offices. Installation and maintenance of such equipment and devices as computers, servers, printers, and cabling may involve physical lifting, pushing and moving of equipment as well as working in positions such as under and behind equipment.The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear and speak as well as perform frequently occurring general maintenance tasks requiring physical exertion.The Technician must be able lift 50 lbs (weight of workstation or small server) and place it on a desktop or in a rack. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral, depth perception.
