Overall Purpose:
Under semi-direct supervision, performs skilled work in connection with meter shop and field service activities for general service installations and installation repair, test, and maintenance of watt-hour meters, instrument transformers, meter communications and other associated meter and end use equipment on customer and company premises.
Job Responsibilities:
When assigned to the field: Installs, maintains, repairs, programs and troubleshoots electricity meters and meter-related equipment including, but limited to, meters, meter communication equipment, remote meter reading modules, cell control units, inspection and reset of Omega communication interface cabinets or equivalent, and other associated equipment and devices on single-phase and network meter installations.
When assigned to the shop: Disassembles, inspects, adjusts, repairs, programs, tests, calibrates, maintains and reassembles electricity meters and meter-related equipment including, but not limited to, plain and demand resisters, single-phase and network meters and those equipped with remote meter reading modules. Removes, inspects, cleans, programs and installs remote meter reading modules. Shop meter work includes testing of all single, network and poly-phase revenue meters.
When assigned to the shop: Disassembles, inspects, adjusts, repairs, cleans and reassembles single-phase network and electromechanical meters, instrument transformers and other associated meter equipment.
Performs service requests for service restoration, meter equipment repairs and safety-related issues associated with storm damage, vandalism, fires, accidents, etc.
Assists with installation of poly-phase and transformer rated metering.
Assembles and wires power meter enclosures and assists with field installation.
Performs meter inspections, load tests and investigations and special tests concerning suspected tampering, current diversion and/or theft of service.
Reads, checks, resets and programs meters including, but not limited to, those equipped with remote meter reading modules.
Provides instruction and technical direction to others.
Performs clerical work related to assigned duties.
Maintains equipment and working areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs other work related to the above as required or assigned.
Education / Experience Requirements:
Education equivalent to graduation from high school.
Successful completion of one 3-credit hour course in AC/DC theory and one 3-credit hour course in basic algebra and trigonometry.
Must pass the company administered standardized aptitude test (CAST)
Ability to meet and tactfully deal with the public.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
