Job Description : Duties
Operates and performs operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons. Vehicles are driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads (or the equivalent) at highway speeds to transport personnel, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools or to tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas (various kinds of traffic) and varying weather conditions.Loads cargo onto the vehicle, using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders, or straps for transit on public roads at highway speeds or under similar driving circumstances.Safely transports passengers or cargo to their destinations throughout rural or urban areas on park and/or public roads in a full range of traffic conditions (or the equivalent).Makes couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment.Completes daily work and/or trip reports as required.Assists with trails and grounds workAssists with road repairs, asphalt, drainage clearing
Area Information: Located in the Pocono Mountains, just 80 miles west of New York City and 100 miles north of Philadelphia, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area attracts over 5-million visitors each year. The 70,000-acre park also includes the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreation Area and 26 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Nearby towns of Stroudsburg, PA, Port Jervis, NY, and Newton, NJ provide all services, including K-12 school, college, medical services and other community needs. Additionally, several smaller communities are adjacent to the park. Summers and winters are generally mild with average summer temperatures about 80 degrees, with some humidity, and average winter temperatures about 30 degrees. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. You may also be required submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver’s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.
You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old due to the hazardous work required (driving a motor vehicle, etc.)
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the qualification requirements as specified in the X-118-C, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, 5703 Series. There is no specific length of training or experience required for this position; however, the experience and training in your application and response to the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs or job elements) below must show that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements.

Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.
Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
Physical Demands: Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires, and make limited emergency repairs. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
