We’re proud to foster an inclusive environment where employees are empowered to be their best, make meaningful contributions and go home safe every day.Your OpportunityOne Permanent Full Time Position.Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking a motivated and results-oriented individual to join our team at Arlington Valley.As an O&M Power Plant Operator, you will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned on shift.You will contribute to our team byOperates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment on the power plant. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, brine maker, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.Operates raw water systems, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, & fluid levels, and water chemistry to verify operating conditions.Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility including painting projects as required and weed control when needed. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant including grounds, warehouse, enclosures, and control room.Utilizes the facility’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to enter work orders.Operates heavy equipment such as a man lift and forklift.Performs water chemistry analysis on heat recovery steam generator, auxiliary boiler, and cooling tower systems.Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.Operates and maintains a Combined Cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance as directed by and in coordination with the control room operator (CRO).Responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.Responsible for outage planning and scheduling involvement.Assists with development of operations procedures and standard operating procedures (SOP’s).Assists with administering the operator training program.Identifies and resolves CEMS problems.Assists in calibrations and gas bottle change outs.Keeps Operations Manager, Control Room Operator and Lead Control Room Operator fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift.Ensures water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Adjusts water chemistry, as needed, by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown rates. Works with plant engineer, Lead Control Room Operator, and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees, contractors, and public safety.Performs Inspection of Watch on each system within the plant. Inspection of watch includes recording data, observing operation of equipment looking for abnormal conditions, leaks, smells or sounds that indicate potential problems.Acts as a role model in demonstrating Health, Safety & Environmental procedures/rules and standards.Assists with performing Root Cause Analysis of failures.Operates on demineralized water systems in accordance with the Original Equipment Manufacturer and plant procedures and monitor demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limits.Complete ‘Lock-out Tag-out’, ‘Confined Space’, and other permits required to perform work on or inspect plant equipment.Coordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely delivery of materials and repair of plant equipment.Maintains strong relationships with / works with the Control Room Operator and OM in managing the plant’s inventory, and performing audits as needed.What you will bring to the roleEducation: High School diploma or equivalent required.Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college to technical school preferred.Experience: Two to four years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.Preference will be given to candidates that have previously qualified and worked as a Control Room Operator at a Combined Cycle Power Plant.Technical Skills: Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, written records.Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, piping and instrument drawings (P&ID’s).Ability to write routine reports, solve practical problems, and clearly communicate tasks, needs, and training of other personnel.Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.Proficient at Water Chemistry.Maintain valid driver’s licenses.Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift and be available to work for call-ins and work over time as needed.Consists of walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).Additional DetailsAs this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required.In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in United States of America.The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.Capital Power requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the only exception being those people having verified medical or religious exemption as per applicable human rights law.Successful applicants will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, or proof of a valid exemption pursuant to applicable human rights law.Capital Power employees that refer a successful candidate for this position are eligible for a $1000 Referral Reward!We offer a highly flexible benefits and wellbeing program, comprehensive onboarding and training, and various development opportunities to support your success and personal growth.How To Apply and Next StepsCapital Power only accepts resumes via online application at www.capitalpower.com/careers .
