Job Description : SERVICE PLANNER – NORTH

SUMMARY
Compiles ridership and/or operating statistical data to analyze adequacy of service and conduct ongoing monitoring of an assigned group of bus lines.

MAIN FUNCTIONS:
Develop specific service modification proposals for bus service changes designed to remedy problems or improve service quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
Prepare, proofread and approve written public information materials, including public timetables, passenger notices, and schedule information displays. Develop and coordinate special notices for posting on NJ TRANSIT website.
Outline data collection needs and conduct field work to review service issues, collect data, and develop route & schedule changes.
Review, investigate and respond to internal and external customer requests, suggestions and complaints.
Review and update documents used by other NJ TRANSIT departments such as route descriptions, bus operating statistics for contract services, and bus stop by line information. Prepare transportation bulletins to implement service changes, as necessary.
Attend and represent the Bus Service Planning Department interests at state, county, local and community meetings regarding issues affecting bus service. Attend public and internal employee forums as required. Maintain contact with field operating locations and on-street supervisors to monitor bus service levels and ridership.
Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors or the Director, Bus Service Planning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Transportation, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or related field from a US Department of Education accredited college or university.
Experience with data collection and analysis required.
Preferred:
Experience analyzing bus service, routes, schedules, or operations desired.
Previous experience in developing project work plans, schedules, or timetables for specific implementation activities.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel and Word.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be able to effectively manage multiple responsibilities while meeting mission critical deadlines and to work effectively in a team setting.
