The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as an Upper School Spanish Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. We are building a team in which diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and talents are valued in order to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and families. The Upper School Spanish Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff and the World Language Department. This position will be responsible for teaching three sections of Spanish per term in the Upper School during the 2022-23 Academic Year.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and support a proficiency approach to language instruction
Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach all levels of Spanish, to include introductory through level 5 (when supported by enrollment)
Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
Develop and implement a proficiency-oriented interdisciplinary, multicultural, experiential curriculum
Collaborate and work effectively with the school’s World Languages Department
Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal fall/spring conferences, written reports, and school portal
Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
Attend school related events outside the scheduled school day
Participate actively and with curiosity in school/division/department meetings, in addition to activities/committees
Conscientiously complete other duties as assigned

Experience and Professional Competencies:
Experience in teaching Spanish –3 or more years is preferred
A bachelor’s degree is required
A graduate degree is preferred

Successful candidates will:

Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff and parents/guardians in order to maintain constructive and professional relationships
Complete work in a timely and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlines
Be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning
Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, and Outlook
Be able to complete all background screening forms in a timely manner and meet the school’s related background screening standards
Meet the school’s COVID vaccination requirements. The Bush School is committed to providing a safe environment and campus for students, employees and visitors alike.
