Job Description : Legacy College Prep 10th grade College CounselorLegacy College Prep, a new charter high school located in the South Bronx, invites energetic candidates to apply to the position of High School/College Counselor. The school is founded on the belief that all students, regardless of their previous education or zip code they were born into, can learn and achieve at high levels when held to the highest expectations. It is our mission to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education that puts them on a path to college graduation and a lifetime of expanded opportunities.The school opened in the fall of 2020 with four classes of 9th graders and will continue adding one grade each year until we are a fully enrolled 9-12 charter school. We are looking for high capacity, energetic, detail oriented, and fun-loving individuals to join our Founding Team.Job DescriptionThe College Counselor is a full-time position working on the College Team. This person is responsible for the matriculation of every student into a four-year university/college. The Counselor will promote the mission of Legacy College Prep with a college counseling program that will develop student knowledge, skills, and character. It is the ultimate goal of the college counseling department through guidance and education, to ensure that all graduates are accepted to a 4-year college or University. The College Counselor will gather data on high schools, colleges, and universities to ensure proper matches for students regarding school community, size, location, student to faculty ratio, academic interests, financial aid, and extracurricular interests. It is important to research student support systems – both academic and social – and verify they match student needs. Employee reports to the Director of College Counseling.Job ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain relationships with local college admissions offices.Guide families and scholars through the college application process, including the SAT/ACT testing process.Provide weekly office hours where families and scholars can ask questions and receive guidance on the college application process.Lead & manage Sophomore internship programPartner with neighboring businesses to provide internship opportunities for all 10th grade scholarsPlan specific events for families to learn more information about the high school selection process.Teach 10th grade college seminar courses.Plan and lead college visits for each grade levelStarting in 11th grade, guide students through the college applications process with the goal of helping students to identify and pursue the most appropriate post-secondary pathway.Complete all clerical tasks associated with above responsibilities (filing, copying, data entry, etc.)Job Qualifications 
Unwaveringly high expectations for all students with the belief that every child should have access to a college education. 
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
