Job Description : To be considered, please apply online at this job posting: https://mercerislandschools.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=2827POSITION SUMMARYThe Accounts Payable Specialist provides technical support for District accounts payable services and acts as backup to District purchasing services.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMaintains accounts payable records, to include setting up files, retrieving and matching invoices, auditing invoices for accuracy, and maintaining records and files of payments for the purposes of paying vendors on time and accurately. Provides information for audits.Prepares transactions for data entry, enters payment information into the computer system and verifies the accuracy of the information for the purpose of generating accurate invoices and taking all appropriate discounts.Processes all reimbursements for travel and eligible purchases, auditing data for accuracy and District policies regarding reimbursements.Maintains and inputs data into a utility tracking database. Provides a variety of reports as needed.Communicates with staff and vendors for the purpose of giving information and resolving problems.Processes and issues 1099-misc forms per IRS regulations.Prepares and processes compensating tax report.Prepares voucher information for board agenda meetings.Reconciles vendor billing statements monthly and requests invoices as needed.Maintains and updates knowledge and skills necessary for success in the position by participating in professional development activities as needed or as assigned.Provides back up and peak-load assistance for other areas of accounting and payroll.Performs similar, related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceAssociates’ degree in accounting and two years of accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in job-related field preferred.Knowledge of Capital Projects bookkeeping or accounting principles and procedures.K-12 education experience preferred.SKYWARD experience preferred.Other Skills & AbilitiesKeyboarding, ten-key and computer data entry proficiency.Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.Ability to learn and implement District procedures concerning accounts payable.Ability to provide quality customer service to internal and external customers.Ability to participate as a member of a team.Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and public.Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.WORKING CONDITIONSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times, and type non-stop. Occasionally, but essentially, the employee must be able to use finger dexterity. The employee may occasionally reach above the head and reach forward.Specific vision and hearing required by this job include the ability to see close work such as typed or handwritten material.
