Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Human Resources – Boca Raton, FL.
The Assistant Vice President, Human Resources provides oversight of all units in the Human Resources Department through strategic planning, assessment and program enhancements that serve to increase productivity, visibility, and effectiveness of all areas of the University at large. Provides vision for university strategy in the development of goals, programs, and policies related to advancing the university’s most valuable asset – its human resources.
Responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive and proactive people strategies that deliver a best-in-class experiences throughout the employee life-cycle including new hire on-boarding through the training, development and retention of employees. A proven leader who is enthusiastic, forward thinking, productive, sound decision-making, technical skills, and a strong operational focus. A well-organized and exemplary communicative individual who is a team player and who can relate to people at all levels within the University.
Responsible for budget preparation and oversight of departmental budget in excess of $1 million ensuring effective and efficient operations in support of the University’s mission and strategic plan. Provides direction and support to Senior Associate, Associate, and Assistant Human Resources Directors overseeing operations within their respective units. Provides leadership and direction in interpretation and implementation of policy development for personnel administration. Through the Vice President of Administrative Affairs, makes recommendations to Executive Leadership Team (President and Vice Presidents) regarding unique and special situations. Maintains knowledge of University, State and Federal laws and regulations as they relate to all areas of Human Resource Management. Supports strategic initiatives of university through the development of human resources programs and annual goals and objectives.
Conducts a continuous assessment of all Human Resources policies and practices to keep executive leadership informed of new developments. Assessment is conducted through the analysis of workforce data and HR-related metrics to assess and actively handle people-related key performance indicators, and define strategies for improvement and management (ie. workforce planning, employee engagement, performance management, compensation, turnover, etc.). Utilizes university workforce data dashboards to analyze equity and needed initiatives and professional development to enhance opportunities for all. Ability to identify potential risks/hazards in advance that could negatively affect the organization’s ability to conduct business. Identify inherent risks and provide measures, processes, and controls to reduce the impact of these risks to business operations.
Develops appropriate policies and procedures for effective management in all areas, including but not limited to employee relations, career development, benefits, and employee complaints. Plans, develops and implements University wide programs impacting employee population relevant to personnel matters in meeting human resource needs. Committed to improving the overall operation and effectiveness of Human Resources by regularly updating policies, procedures, and practices. Evaluation of the Human Resources division structure and team design for continuous improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. This includes being aware of national human resource trends not only in higher education but also organizationally in general.
Understands that Human Resources must operate as a service center first and foremost so that the processing components do not take focus away from the service aspects of managing the recruiting, hiring, separating, and retaining employees. While Human Resources is responsible for processing recruitment, hiring, and separations of personnel, this is not to be viewed as a processing center but instead a personnel service center.
Commitment to the professional growth of staff via training and development. External interactions with applicants at all levels; liaison between the University and the Board of Trustees where appropriate; recognized union organizations, contact with members of local business community, non-profit organizations, community organizations in which active presence on boards is held; and Human Resources counterparts within the state of Florida and across the country. Establish credibility throughout the University; an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution and six years of demonstrated career progression; or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and eight years of demonstrated career progression required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Prior HR Director experience in a large organization of similar size and/or scope required.

Prior experience at the Assistant Vice President level, or above preferred.

PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Hands on experience in Workday ERP solution highly preferred.
