Job Description : Position: Coordinator of Student Services
Reports to: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
Assignment: 245 days
7.5 hours/day
Job Summary: The Coordinator of Student Services promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing support for special education and other student support systems.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Student Services primarily oversees the special education department of the district. Additional responsibilities include supervision of nurses, guidance counselors, and speech and language support professionals, as well as oversight of District Child Accounting.
Qualifications: Administrative certification required; Supervisor of Special Education certification preferred. Must have knowledge of special education law; excellent communication skills required.
POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and evaluate special education staff, speech and language staff, nurses, and guidance counselors.
Provide leadership for continuous special education program improvement.
Evaluate special education programs and recommend modifications in compliance with any curriculum development cycle plans.
Assist in selection and assignment of professional and support personnel.
Recommend necessary staff additions and/or reductions.
Act as district special education liaison with outside agencies.
Act as LEA representative when the district is not the operating entity for special education programs and coordinate relevant special education data with the psychologist (for child account, 1305, 1306, etc.).
Develop and monitor accounts for CAIU billing statements and inter-district contracts for special education.
Develop and monitor district special education budget, IDEA budget, and staff patterns.
Develop and submit the state-required special education plan and plan amendments.
Monitor the compliance requirements of special education regulatory issues and develop appropriate responses to ensure the district remains in compliance. Annually provide written public notice of regulatory issues to appropriate audiences.
Conduct the processing of requests for pre-hearing, mediation, and due process hearings.
Manage PennData and coordinate relevant special education data with the psychologist and other pertinent school personnel.
Assist in the MED/IEP process with initial referrals for special education services.
Coordinate and manage the IEP and MDE re-evaluation processes for special education students.
Provide leadership (or consultation) on specially designed instruction.
Provide input for staff development needs and programs.
Coordinate Alternative Education programming and serve as a district liaison with outside providers.
Submit appropriate Child Accounting reports to PDE.
Performs other assigned duties as required by the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent.
GENERAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, and reach above shoulder occasionally.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to do repetitive actions including grasping, pushing/pulling, fine-motor manipulation, writing or printing and twisting/turning frequently.
Must be able to use head and neck in static position, flexing and rotating frequently.
Must be able to adhere to daily time schedule.
Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum).
Must be able to communicate verbally.
Must have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or fewer and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Encompasses all district-operated buildings and grounds. Center of operation is the district office, which is well-ventilated and well-lighted.
EQUIPMENT:
Computer/printer, TV/VCR/DVD, camcorder, tape recorder, overhead projector, photocopier, risograph, thermal overhead maker, slide projector, laminator.
