Job Description : As the leading independent modern media company, Vox Media ignites conversations and influences culture. Across digital, podcasts, TV, streaming, live events, and print, we tell stories that affect our audience’s daily lives and entertain as much as they inform.

Our portfolio features influential and respected editorial properties including Vox, New York Magazine, The Verge, The Cut, Eater, Vulture, The Strategist, Polygon, SB Nation, Intelligencer, Curbed, Grub Street, and Recode. Off-platform, the Vox Media Podcast Network offers one of the largest collections of popular podcasts, and Vox Media Studios produces and distributes the award-winning nonfiction shows. Powered by innovative technology that scales quality, the Chorus publishing platform and Concert advertising marketplace answer the always-changing needs of modern audiences, creators and marketers.

We’re looking for an Editor to join Fetch by The Dodo team within Group Nine Media! As a member of Fetch (a new pet insurance product that was launched in partnership between The Dodo and what was formerly Petplan), your main focus will be writing and editing content for Fetch’s editorial hub, The Dig. You’ll also be tasked with writing and editing emails, video scripts, social copy, and marketing materials.

You’ll be responsible for supporting your small team, along with a freelance network, in crafting copy that effectively converts readers to customers, and from there, provide entertaining and informational content to retain them for the long haul — all while staying on schedule. You’ll also be responsible for helping enforce the brand voice and establishing the brand as a trustworthy and approachable resource for customers.

The Editor will lead by example in demonstrating Group Nine’s values — Care Deeply, Be Brave, Go First, Do Good, Stay Close, and Win Together.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Write and edit a variety of exceptional brand-building content, including (but not limited to) long-form pet wellness articles, scripts for educational videos, website copy, marketing content, and both organic and social ad content
Help build and enforce a brand voice that is trustworthy and reliable and appeals to pet parents and current customers
Edit freelance content to ensure it is free of all grammar errors
Help establish a sourcing network of veterinarians and other pet health professionals
Craft and edit copy that directly converts readers to customers
Obsess over data analytics to build and enforce team best practices on both creative and conversion fronts
Ensure every piece of content is heavily SEO optimized and supports the team’s broader SEO strategy

SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE:

You have superb writing and grammar skills, can craft a compelling editorial narrative, and succeed in brand and marketing writing and editing.
You have excellent copy editing and general editing skills and are obsessed with ensuring all content is polished and professional.
You are highly creative and flexible — you’re able to channel the brand identity into a relatable, identifiable written voice. But you will also ground your work in analytics and best practices, and have a keen eye for converting readers and optimizing business growth.
You are adaptable and positive, and understand that it’s normal for responsibilities, goals and team structure to change as a team establishes itself.
You are intensely self-reliant and accountable; you can work quickly and independently but welcome feedback from a collaborative team environment; you are positive and can-do even under pressure; and you are motivated by change and success and always want to stay two steps ahead of industry and brand best practices.
The content you work on will be exclusively targeted at dog and cat parents, so the ideal candidate will have a dog or cat of their own (or can relate to pet parenthood).

MUST HAVES:

Minimum 4 years experience in writing editorial copy, with exposure to brand and marketing writing
Outstanding editing skills
Excellent writing and grammar skills
Management experience is a plus but not required — we are open to candidates looking to make the jump from writer to editor
A creative voice that can adapt itself to a variety of platforms and content types while staying true to the brand — and an ability to enforce brand voice in yourself and others
Ability to marry creative skills with a deep understanding of business goals (and creating a roadmap to get there)
Reliable and independent self-starter, but with a positive and team-friendly attitude
Love of animals is a must — dog and cat owners are a plus
