Summary:

The Grant Writer Trainee is responsible for writing grant applications proposals for Chugachmiut and the seven Native communities in the Chugach Region as assigned. The Grant Writer Trainee helps prepare grant training.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Research and Identify Grant Opportunities
Weekly research of funding opportunities by monitoring the Federal Register, State publications, private funding sources, and funding periodicals.
Identify potential funding sources aligned with strategic plans. Provide weekly funding newsletters to all stakeholders.
Assist the Grants Team in assessing the likelihood of funding, potential benefits, and restrictions. Identify requirements such as in-kind contributions, contract support caps, cash flow, and timelines needed to evaluate the value of submitting a proposal. Evaluate existing resources, including available staff, office space, and other resources for accomplishing a program.
Track potential opportunities provided to Tribes and Directors that were not pursued and pursued.
Write Grant Proposals
Grant and Contract Compliance
Assist in the monitoring of grant or contract compliance as directed.
Other
Assist in developing the schedule for completing a grant proposal, including resolutions and submission deadline requirements.
Assist in the writing of proposals for Tribes and Chugachmiut as directed.
Monitor the status of proposals.
Prepare a quarterly report on activities for the supervisor.
Travel to communities to consult on projects or grant applications.
Participate in Chugachmiut and Tribal workshops and provide grant writing and compliance instruction.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

B.A. or equivalent experience.
Minimum of one-year experience in administering a grant or contract, including compliance issues.
Evidence of participation in successful proposals and project completion is preferred.
Awareness of State and federal grant and contract opportunities and procedures about rural Native communities.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Must manage time to meet deadlines for submission of grant applications and reporting requirements.
Familiarity with Tribal governments and the needs and resources of small rural communities is preferred.
Must be able to work as a team
Ability to grow and learn under the guidance of the Grants Administrator.
Ability to express ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely in writing and orally.

Hours of Work:

Hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch.

This is a full-time 37.5 hours per week and 1950 hours per year position.
