Be resourceful to get loads covered and resolve issues that prevent load completion. Promote consistency and the safe movement of cargo. Identify and take action to optimize efficiencies and prevent unnecessary costs. Primary duties include the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. *Bilingual preferred*LIST 6 HIGH PAYOFF ACTIVITIES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE IN WHICH 80% OF TIME SHOULD BE SPENT. ASSIGN EACH ACTIVITY A PERCENTAGE. IF S.M.A.R.T. GOALS ARE SET UP FOR THIS POSITION, PLEASE ATTACH S.M.A.R.T. GOALS ON SEPARATE PAGE AND PLACE A CHECK IN THE APPENDIX BOX BELOW.*Plan and schedule the pick-up of Import containers while: a) prioritizing LFD, delivery appointments, and customers’ needs; b) matching drivers’ export load terminals, chassis, and ETAs; and c) preventing per diem, demurrage, PierPass, chassis fees, and other charges (50%)Monitor status of pick-up, live load, and live unload appointments for both Import and Export loads. Identify and execute street turn opportunities. Verify all loads are covered or rescheduled before a service interruption occurs. (20%)Monitor balance of Import and Export loads on an ongoing basis. Project coverage needs several days in advance and work with Operations supervisors to reduce imbalances. Prioritize the flow of Export loads and empty containers with emphasis on export cut dates and per diem. Make recommendations regarding capacity for turning drivers. (10%)Monitor the status of issues preventing Export load termination. Verify booking updates, termination appointments, rail billing, flip fees, and hazmat pre-advisement are completed timely and prior to drivers’ arrival at terminal. Work with Operations supervisors to divert drivers as necessary. Prepare contingencies. (10%)Lead daily end of shift meetings to discuss pending issues and contingencies with night staff. (5%)Help fill in for various Dispatch or Operations roles as needed. (5%)ALL OTHER TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIESPerforms other job-related duties, as required, to benefit the Operation.Verify Import loads outgated by local drivers and Export loads loaded by local drivers are repowered according to priority.Verify hazmat and customs documents are available for Import pickups and deliveries prior to dispatch.Identify opportunities for to haul doubles loads and empties.Work with others to promote an atmosphere of teamwork, customer service and efficiency in the movement of containers.Assist with dispatching drivers and independent contractors in the absence of dispatch personnel.Attend and participate in weekly and monthly operations team meetings, as well as quarterly driver safety meetings.Provide a high quality of life for all employees by living the Duncan and Son Lines’ values of Safety, Security, Profit, Integrity-Ethics, Quality Service, People Development-Training, Consistency, Trust and Reputation.LIST THE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS SHOWING HOW THIS POSITION’S PERFORMANCE IS MEASURED.Containers are scheduled for pickup according to standard.Loads are planned for pickup and delivery with optimal efficiency.Coverage needs are consistently balanced and scheduled in advance whenever possible to maximize flow opportunities.Communication between day and night shifts is adequately facilitated.ESSENTIAL AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION OR UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS (EXPERIENCE, FORMAL TRAINING, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSING, SPECIFIC ABILITIES OR SKILLS)2 years minimum of intermodal experience with Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles is required. 2 years Dispatch or Customer Service experience is preferred. Must be able to communicate clearly in English (both verbally and in writing) in a professional, respectful manner. English/Spanish bilingual fluency is preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively work as a member of a team and show enthusiasm for solving complex issues. Must be knowledgeable of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations regarding hours of service, Uniform Intermodal Interchange & Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA), and Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) rules.*ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CAPABILITIES*Must be able to sit for up to 10 hours using a phone, keyboard, and monitor. Must have intermediate computer skills to navigate and update Truck-mate database, Microsoft Word and Excel, and similar forms. Must be able to multitask. Must be resourceful with provided tools. Must be able to easily ascend and descend stairs. Must be present and work from the facility location when scheduled. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to remain calm in high pressure situations. Must be able to identify color differences of cells on spreadsheets.
