Position : Patient Care Coordinator
Job Description : Responsibilities
The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a full-time Patient Care Coordinator to join the TMS Clinic at our Westwood and Pasadena locations. You will support the Neuromodulation Division and its mission to develop new approaches to understanding the brain and new treatments for psychiatric and neurological disorders. Primary duties include:
Answering and directing central phone line
Front desk duties (greeting, checking-in, preparation of patient charts, etc.)
Patient scheduling, interviewing, and encounter registration
Verifying insurance benefits and record benefits for finance review
Monitoring collection, quality control, and processing of charge documents
Update referrals and new authorization date and extended treatments
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Working knowledge of Medi-Cal, HMO’s, PPO’s, third party payors, etc., authorizations and eligibility requirements and regulations
Experience in clinical and healthcare research setting and customer service experience
Knowledge of basic psychiatric terminology to converse with physicians, clinicians, patients and public
Ability to perform the functions of patient encounters, registration and appointment scheduling using a computerized system
Basic computer skills and experience with Care Connect (preferred)
Ability to work as part of a team and handle multiple tasks independently and effectively.
Strong writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information.
Strong organizational and coordinating skills in order to manage several projects.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, windows, Outlook e-mail and basic knowledge of PC applications.
Skill in performing basic arithmetic operations such as adding and subtracting to determine financial eligibility or required deposits.
Working knowledge of various departments, patient related policies and procedures, as well as a thorough understanding of the University system (preferred)
Typing skills sufficient to input date with accuracy and speed. Skill in computing rations, rates and percentages to assign appropriate charges to patients and provide correct change for cash payments
