Position : Payroll Specialist

Job Description : GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Payroll Specialist performs a variety of professional and technical duties to process payroll and leave transactions and uses automated processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform all facets of processing payroll, including compliance with federal, state, and local tax rules and internal policies affecting gross to net computations
Perform independent planning and preparation to ensure mission is accomplished within set time frames with respect to processing deadlines and system constraints
Compile payroll data for garnishments, annual and personal leave, and insurance and retirement deductions, to include 403b accounts
Contact various department supervisors for any missed payroll information
Compile internal management reports from payroll system software
Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies
Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to troubleshoot, design process improvements, and analyze data
Proficiency with systems to support payroll processes, data entry, and use of technical tools to assess data integrity
Knowledge of school division policies, principles, and concepts common to a payroll operation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in business, accounting or related subject
Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience using multiple systems and tools to accomplish large volume payroll processing
