Position : Pharmacy Technician
Job Description : Under close supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs technical duties related to pharmaceutical care in an accurate and timely manner.The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Level I employees perform work under close supervision, may only perform simple or routine aspects or the position, and generally require a good deal of instruction and/or training. Level IV employees perform high level, complex, and responsible tasks within this position, train lower level employees, and generally work with minimum supervision and follow-up from their supervisor.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIESAllRepackages and distributes prescriptions; performs compounding of IV, topical and oral medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in an accurate and timely manner. Documents patient and procedural information. Follows proper billing procedures.Restocks bays and all other work areas with medications. Performs inventory checks. Orders medications and supplies. Performs data entry. Follows proper drug and chemical storage procedures according to department guidelines. Maintains and cleans pharmaceutical equipment.Receives and triages phone calls from patients and healthcare providers. Provides backup front desk customer service. Adheres to the regulatory and practice standards of pharmaceutical care.Pharmacy Technician IIPerform complex and responsible tasks within this position and generally work with minimum supervision and follow-up from their supervisor.Pharmacy Technician IIIPerform high level, complex, and responsible tasks within this position and usually work with minimum supervision and follow-up from their supervisor.Pharmacy Technician IVProvides leadership, direction, and guidance to staff. Develops goals and priorities in conjunction with manager and employees, and assigns tasks and projects. Develops staff skills and training plans and oversees training and competency.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Required SkillsKnowledge of pharmaceutical equipment and instruments.Knowledge of the regulations and practice standards of pharmaceutical care.Knowledge of drug names, drug strengths, and dosage forms.Knowledge of applicable computer system software programs.Skill in using pharmaceutical equipment and instruments.Skill in critical thinking in the performance of pharmaceutical care activities.Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.Required ExperienceMINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONAllA high school diploma or GED equivalent.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONPharmacy Technician INon-supervisory – NonePharmacy Technician IINon-supervisory – One (1) year professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) Pharmacy or related experience.Pharmacy Technician IIINon-supervisory – Three (3) years professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) Pharmacy or related experience.Pharmacy Technician IVNon-supervisory – Five (5) years professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) Pharmacy or related experienceMINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONAllMust possess a current State of Alaska Pharmacy Technician or Intern License.Pharmacy Technician II, III & IVPharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONN/APREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONPharmacy Technician I: Pharmacy or related experience.PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONN/AADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSIf exposure to hazardous materials and medications, sharp objects, and infectious diseases is present, must don appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must operate within department’s appropriate engineering controls such as negative pressure storage rooms and compounding hoods.WORKING CONDITIONSThe following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:Must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds.May be exposed to hazardous materials and medication, sharp objects and infectious diseases.ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.This position requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.Location: 4000 Ambassador Dr,Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
