Job Description : ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTIONThe Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) is a grassroots coalition of over 400 immigrant and refugee rights organizations, formed in the wake of the November 2016 elections.WAISN’s mission is to protect and advance the power of immigrant and refugee communities through a multiracial, multigenerational, multiethnic, multiethnic, multigender, multilingual, and multi-faith coalition. Our organizing strategy educates and mobilizes statewide to uphold and defend the rights and dignity of all immigrants and refugees, centering the voices of vulnerable and impacted communities.The state of Washington is home to over 943,000 immigrants and receives the 8th most refugees among states. Many groups of, by and for immigrants and refugees have been working around the state for decades. In the face of the proliferating threats unleashed on us by the Trump administration and a rise in the white supremacy movement in the U.S, we have coalesced to form the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network.WAISN is the largest immigrant-led coalition in the State of Washington. We are a powerful, volunteer-driven network of immigrant and refugee-rights organizations and individuals distributed across the state in 27 counties. We work to provide support, capacity, and resources to organizations’ efforts to build power and act as a united immigrant justice voice statewide.The ideal candidate shares our commitment to building relationships and grassroots power in immigrant and refugee communities and supports our feminist decolonial transnational and intersectional values of joy, care, solidarity across differences, integrity and accountability.POSITION SUMMARYThis position will work closely with senior management and grassroots organizations to maximize WAISN’s presence and impact in moving our progressive immigrant justice agenda at the national, state, municipal, county, city and institutional levels.The Policy Director will lead a team of personnel in strategic engagement with WAISN’s legislative agenda. The Policy Director will lead this work in close collaboration with the Deputy Director of WAISN, with our organizing team, and will work in coordination with grassroots partner organizations across the state.Key ResponsibilitiesManage and provide strong leadership for WAISN’s Policy and Advocacy Team, including effective supervision and development of the Advocacy Coordinator, the Deportation Defense Coordinator, and the Fair Fight Bond Coordinator;Monitor and stay up to date with federal developments on immigration policy initives that shift deportation and detention priorities and have an effect on WA State detention practices.Develop and manage a departmental budget;Raise resources to support the departmental budget, recruit and hire new staff for the Policy and Advocacy Team;Coordinate with other departments within the organization to ensure that the political, legislative and policy work of WAISN aligns with the broader strategy of the organization, particularly in close coordination with the organizing team.Represent WAISN in key tables, coalitions, and meetings with allies and organizational partners, particularly member organizations from our steering committee;Raise and leverage relationships to support state partners’ political and advocacy programs;Partner with the Communications Team to project externally WAISN’s political and advocacy agenda and message;Oversee WAISN’s Deportation Defense and Detention Bonds Programs;Provide high-level strategic advice to the Deputy Director on program development including long-term strategy and growth, and tracking relevant legislative and ballot initiative opportunities;Oversee and project-manage our annual Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Days in the first quarter of every year;In collaboration with the Organizing Director, oversee and project-manage our annual Immigrant Youth Convening;Develop and Manage a process for setting WAISN’s annual legislative priorities in collaboration with our Steering Committee;Host and Manage WAISN’s weekly policy calls during the Legislative Session and organize a schedule for the remainder of the year that aligns with organizing campaign goals;Identify and recruit new organizational members that align with WAISN’s values;Lead WAISN’s work to position ourselves, our partners, and our agenda strategically and powerfully in Olympia, WA with policymakers and influencers.JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL TRAITS PREFERREDA demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, queer and transgender communities, as well as low-and moderate income families;A demonstrated commitment to cutting edge progressive values that champion an intersectional decolonial and transnational feminist agenda centered around the dismantling of all systems of oppression.A minimum of 3 years experience in political campaigns, with some relevant connection to community, labor, or other non-candidate politics;A minimum of 3 years of personnel management experience;Has a strong political network and relationships with leaders within the State and National progressive landscape;Experience working across departments or teams within an organization;Experience managing large scale or statewide political or issue based campaigns;Familiarity with political data, latest technologies, and best practices in the field;Independent and strong leader that is able to drive projects and programs to completion in a fast-paced environment;Ability to work within a coalition of diverse organizations and partners;Experience working in diverse communities and with grassroots organizations;Excellent writing and communication skills;Process driven and results-focused with superb organization skills;Self-motivated – proven ability to work independently;Capable of creating and maintaining a positive organizational culture and a culture of collaboration;Bilingual/multilingual skills are highly preferred and desired.Maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability and willingness to travel regularly & must live in Washington state.COMPENSATION This is a full time position. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $105,000 annually for full-time work, contingent on experience.Benefits package includes professional development training fees, generous paid time off, vacation and sick leave.
