Job Description : Employment OpportunityButler County Educational Service CenterFebruary 18, 2022POSITION: Proofreader – As NeededGENERAL DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibility of this position is to compile and proofread the Governing Board agenda, contracts and minutes. Maintain highly confidential information.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma with a minimum of five years secretarial experience and/or a college degree in secretarial sciences, paralegal or related field.Knowledge of standard office methods and practices.Strong computer skills with word-processing, spreadsheet, and database application knowledge.Basic business math skills.Meticulous proofreading skills, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.Ability to review and compare information in contracts.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and at times improvise as necessary to complete the task at hand.Ability to work without close supervision under pressure at difficult tasks until completed.Outstanding organizational and time management skills to balance multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision; attention to detail also critical.Ability to maintain confidential information, exercising judgment and diplomacy at all times.Willingness/ability to work as a team member.Demonstrated organizational abilities.History of good job attendance.Must pass criminal background check, and be free from communicable disease.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To work with administrators and to compile needed information for the Governing Board agenda on a monthly basis.To type and forward, in advance, the agenda and reports for all Educational Service Center board meetings.To demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.To be responsible for typing Governing Board minutes, numbering and placing them in the official minute notebook.To work with Treasurer concerning Governing Board agenda, minutes and preparation of state forms.To attend monthly meeting prep and Governing Board meetings in person.To meet monthly deadlines.Attends meetings as assigned by the Treasurer.To respond to requests for information and assistance.To plan and organize work so that priority is given to those tasks that need to be completed by a specific date paying special attention to follow complex oral and written instructions and, at times, improvise as necessary to complete the task at hand.To work out solutions to problems before seeking help and know when it is appropriate to seek assistance.To perform high levels of clerical work in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of the district, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality at all times.To work continuously to complete the Governing Board agenda without close supervision.To continuously update and improve professional competence.To perform other tasks, consistent with the position, as may be assigned by the treasurer.OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.To help instill in the students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures; effective communication procedures, required local, state and federal reports; public relations, effective conferencing techniques.Ability to: Interpret policy, rules and regulations; compile and prepare required reports; communicate effectively. Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment.Skill in: Use of computer (Google docs, MS Word, Excel, instructional and office equipment, and telephone.EQUIPMENT OPERATED:Computer, instructional and office equipment, and telephone.ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board.
