Position : Release of Information Team Member – Work From Home
Job Description : Position Overview:
This is a work from home role and candidates can live in the following states:
Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah
Receives and processes requests for the legal health record from various sources (patients, attorneys, insurance companies, and health care providers) in paper or electronic format, including data entry, accounting for payment for record copies, completion of affidavits, and appropriate release of information. Screens and ensures authorizations for the release of health records comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the release of health information following strict confidentiality guidelines.
Supports the success of a high-performing shared services organization by helping to champion and drive the long-term Sutter Shared Services vision. Helps foster an environment in which continuous improvement in business processes and services is welcomed and recognized. Participates in programs and in using tools in support of building a high performance culture via the standard Sutter Shared Services responsibilities (e.g. performance measurement, people development, customer relationship management, etc.).
Limited/occasional travel to major office locations in Northern California, including overnight stays; must provide own transportation.
May be required to work PM or weekend shifts
Qualifications:
Education, Licensures, and Certifications:
HS Diploma is required
Release of Information Certification within 1 Year of employment required
Associate’s degree preferred
Medical Terminology Course preferred
Epic Certification in Release of Information preferred
Registered Health Information Technician certification preferred
Experience:
Demonstrated experience and a proven track record in Release of Information, hospital business operations, information systems and applications, as typically acquired in 1-2 years of experience as a credentialed Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) OR 2-4 years in a Health Information Management Department required.
Experience participating in Release of Information standards, processes, policies, procedures and service level agreements preferred
Experience in complex regional/ shared service environment with multiple/ matrix reporting relationships preferred
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong understanding of release of information practices, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Title 22, California Medical Information Act (CMIA), Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act and other relevant regulations related to the release of health information
Ability to keep abreast of changing laws relating to release of information practices through continuing education
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Familiarity with Health Information Management and its role within Revenue Cycle operations
Knowledge of principles and methods related to compliant healthcare fee schedules
Knowledge of electronic health record system applications, preferably Epic
Knowledge of document imaging system applications, preferably OnBase
Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within agreed upon timeframes through effective time management and prioritization of duties and functions
Strong computer and keyboard skills to carry out the duties associated with the ROI module, electronic health record, and OnBase imaging application used to import new medical record requests
Strong customer service skills; ability to articulate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers
Requires strong accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work concurrently on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced production environment
Ability to manage own schedule and responsibilities. Must have initiative to work effectively without constant supervision and direction, meeting all deadlines
Ability to identify, analyze, prioritize, resolve and/or escalate problems promptly
Ability to learn new applications/software systems effectively and efficiently
Ability to contribute and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to influence others using one-on-one contact and group discussions
Ability to recognize the appropriate style, level of detail, and message for the audience
Ability to develop effective working relationships/ networks within and outside the organization
Familiarity with spreadsheets and word processing software applications, preferably Microsoft Office products
Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
