The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) tackles the barriers that prevent every individual from living a healthy life. Department Overview:
CEAR works with a broad range of not-for-profit and governmental organizations to investigate and assess initiatives that seek to improve the health and well-being of populations. With expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, CEAR conducts needs assessments, formative research, process evaluations, and outcome evaluations.
Position Overview:
CEAR is seeking a research assistant to provide support for projects related to community health and healthcare. This is a temporary position starting as soon as possible and lasting through August, with a 25-hour minimum weekly requirement. Compensation is $30/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Outreach and recruitment. Support efforts to conduct outreach and to recruit survey and focus group participants, including tracking of responses.
Qualitative data collection. Assist in the coordination, implementation, and co-facilitation of online focus groups.
Qualitative data coding. Code interview and focus group transcripts using Nvivo software.
Administrative Support. Provide logistical support for data collection activities including but not limited to preparing focus group materials, managing audio recordings and transcription, and arranging for and tracking participant incentives.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
Ability to interact by phone and email with individuals from diverse population.
Ability to attend focus groups on occasional weekends and evenings, depending on project needs.
Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel (or other database).
Knowledge in areas such as qualitative data collection and analysis preferred. Knowledge of quantitative research also desirable.
Experience or interest in pursuing a career in public health preferred.
Language Skills
English. Spanish preferred, but not required. Fluency in Mandarin, French or Arabic also desirable.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience, or graduate student in public health or related field.
