Job Description : Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipal employee.These positions are represented by the Public Employees Local 71 Union (L71) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and L71.DEPARTMENT: Parks and RecreationHOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; 4/10’s Monday through Thursday; Tuesday through Friday; Friday through Monday; Wednesday through Saturday; 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.LOCATION: North Park Maintenance Shop: 2839 Mountain View Drive; South Park Maintenance Shop: 11440 Lang StreetThese are seasonal, full-time (40 hours per week)_ positions, which will begin on April 18, 2022 and ends approximately on September 27, 2022._Example of DutiesMaintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and useable condition for the general public to enjoy. The park caretaker I position is the first level classification in the park maintenance series. Perform routine park maintenance under general supervision. The distinction between this level and other levels of park maintenance workers is based upon the level and the complexity of duties performed and the degree of supervision received and exercised.Summer Season Duties: turf and irrigation maintenance; removal & cleanup of unauthorized or illegal campsites; litter collection; athletic and multi-use field maintenance; trail maintenance; park fence and barrier repairs; park shelters, amenities and equipment cleaning and repair; special event preparation and support; and general grounds and facility care. Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesSix (6) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license at the time of hire.Preferences: Experience as a Parks Caretaker I with the Municipality of Anchorage.Experience in operating various types of maintenance equipment and tools.Additional Important InformationIf selected for hire, applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, and kneeling. Applicant must be able to lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.An individual currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
