Job Description : THE POSITION
Aquatic biologists wanted! The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has an immediate opening and needs candidates to conduct aquatic assessments and assisting managers with data collection, project implementation, and coordination for state parks resource management projects related to aquatic biology.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position functions as an Aquatic Biologist 1 in the Resource Management and Field Services Section of the Resource Management and Planning Division, Bureau of State Parks.

Duties will include:

Following detailed scientific data collection methods for aquatic biological surveying characterizing biotic and abiotic factors in park lakes, streams, and watersheds.Take part in the use of biological survey equipment, sampling devices, water quality sensors, field meters, boats, herbicide application equipment, and other tools to carry out projects in and around water.Assist in data collection for watershed surveys (weather, topology, geology and soils, tributaries, and land use), biological surveys (fish, macrophyte, plankton, and macroinvertebrate communities), sediment surveys (benthic core and sediment depth dredging), water profiles, outflow surveys, and other special surveys (specific analytes, bathymetric, harmful algae bloom, etc.) informing project site evaluationsAssist in field projects for habitat improvement, shoreline stabilization, water quality improvement, and recreational access.

Work Hours and Additional Information:
Full-time seasonal employment without benefits
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM – 4:00PM; 30-minute lunch

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with a major in a biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management, including or supplemented by six credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework.
NECCESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This position requires possession of an active non-commercial PA Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
