Interested candidates should submit a COVER LETTER and RESUME.OVERVIEW: The ALS Association Golden West Chapter supports people living with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) and their loved ones through services and education in the state of Hawaii and in 31 Counties throughout California.Our mission is to discover treatments and cures for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.Under the direction and guidance of the Vice President of Community Outreach — and in close collaboration with a Hawaii-based Care Services team, California-based Community Outreach Directors, and various volunteer leaders — the Assistant Director of Community Outreach, Hawaii will primarily oversee fundraising and mission awareness efforts connected to the Chapter’s signature event in Hawaii, the Walk to Defeat ALS. Based on Oahu, the Assistant Director will also support Chapter efforts in endurance and do-it-yourself events in Hawaii, along with programs, services, grants, and major gifts efforts in the state. The person in this position must have peer-to-peer fundraising experience for events such as walks, 5Ks, rides or similar, and will ensure that the Walk to Defeat ALS program is on track to meet its goals. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES PLANNING + TRAINING + MANAGEMENT You will assist the VP of Community Outreach and other leadership staff and volunteers in developing a fundraising plan for the Walk to Defeat ALS, including setting budgets and goals, and will ensure that this event meets its fundraising and programmatic goals.RECRUITMENT + CULTIVATION + STEWARDSHIP You will be responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with key constituents associated with the Walk to Defeat ALS, major gifts, grants, client programs, and various third-party fundraisers in Hawaii.For the Walk, you will recruit and retain Friends and Family Teams and Corporate Teams. You will work closely with the team captains and participants to develop their personal and team fundraising plans by mentoring, coaching, and encouraging their fundraising efforts to help them achieve their goals.CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP You will lead and grow the Chapter’s corporate partnership initiatives in regard to the Walk to Defeat ALS and other events with the help of Chapter leadership including prospecting, cultivation, developing custom proposals, securing commitments, stewardship and retention.VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT You will recruit, lead, direct, and manage fundraising and logistics committees for the Walk to Defeat ALS. You will recruit, empower, and mobilize volunteers to join us in the fight through the Walk, third-party events, advocacy, and Chapter programs in the region.MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, AND PUBLIC AWARENESS You will collaborate with marketing, community outreach, and programs staff on the planning and execution of all marketing and communications plans related to events, cultivation, advocacy, and awareness in Hawaii.BUDGET MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGIC PLANNING You will be responsible for managing Walk to Defeat ALS revenue and expense budgets and ensuring targets are achieved. In addition, you’ll be involved in developing and implementing strategic plans for this event and its related activities that will enhance revenue growth for our mission. You’ll analyze and report on event data on a regular basis and redefine strategies as necessary.Other Work closely with California-based Community Outreach staff to ensure achievement of all Chapter goalsEnsure smooth integration of Chapter standards and guidelinesAttend Chapter events and meetings as requiredWork closely with a Hawaii-based Regional Care Manager and attend Hawaii support groups as necessary to enhance relationships and Chapter visibility in the fieldCollaborate closely with others in the Programs and Development departments to support and grow the Chapter’s effectiveness and efficiency in fundraising and mission activities in HawaiiPerform other duties as assigned in support of the Chapter’s mission and fundraising goalsDESIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor’s degreeA minimum of three years’ experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in walk, run and/or related fundraising events.A minimum of three years’ experience with event production and management, volunteer development and management, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relationsAbility to manage and motivate large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise and influenceProven history of achieving revenue goalsExcellent writing skillsStrong organizational skillsAble to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environmentMust effectively respond to constantly changing priorities and effectively respond to and proactively resolve problems/conflicts as they arise; the ability to “think on one’s feet” is critically importantMust exercise good judgment in prioritization; must know when to seek input from supervisorAble to communicate both orally and in writing in a timely and effective manner to multiple constituencies. Strong follow-up and follow-through requiredAble to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality in working with sensitive, confidential records and informationDemonstrated proficiency with a variety of computer programs in a Windows environment, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, and GoogleWorkspace environment.
