Job Description : The Center for Fiction is looking for part-time booksellers to join the team at the Center’s bookstore located in Fort Greene Brooklyn. This position will work approximately 20 hours per week.The ideal bookseller at The Center for Fiction will have at least 1 year of bookselling experience. The Center isn’t just a bookstore, but a large nonprofit organization with many programs. Booksellers are expected to learn about the organization’s mission and remain current with its programming. They will also be a voracious reader, excited by the best in literary fiction, crime fiction, literature-in-translation, independent presses and classics. Lastly, booksellers will be expected to multitask and convey enthusiasm for fiction and other related genres.This position will have access to The Center’s lending library, admission to onsite events, and staff discounts on books, classes, and more. 401k participation is available upon eligibility.The position pays $18/hour.Please see below for more specific requirements:CUSTOMER SERVICEGreet customers, answer questions, and assist with the purchase of books or merchandisePractice book-in-hand delivery to guarantee that customers are receiving the items they are looking forProvide recommendations to increase customer options, either in person or with written staff picksKeep up with CFF updates to provide members and customers with accurate informationSYSTEMSUse our inventory system to locate or order items for customersProcess web orders, pulling books from the shelves or ordering them as necessary, notifying the customer, and shipping if requiredProcess books for CFF events, shipping out books, and notifying attendeesCount cash and finalize the register at the end of the closing shiftSTORE MAINTENANCEShelve, arrange, clean, and perfect book sections as necessaryMaintain overstock, making sure as many books as possible are out on the sales floorRestock merchandise as it sellsCreate and maintain table and window displays, and contribute ideas for rotating displaysGeneral upkeep of the store as needed, such as tidying, dusting, restocking the bathroom, taking out trash etc.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTMaintain a working knowledge of all sections in the store to be able provide support to customers and team membersUse Edelweiss and other industry platforms to stay abreast of upcoming booksKeep up to date with industry newsSuggest process improvements and help implement systems for best practicesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAble to lift 50lbsAble to stand for long periodsAble to climb a ladderThe Center for Fiction is an equal opportunities employer and we value diversity at our organization.
