Job Description : Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Responds to emergency medical calls and other emergency situations, providing treatment and transport for injured or sick persons. Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician III preferred but must be authorized to practice in the State of Alaska at time of hire.
Examples of Duties
Drives and operates ambulances and other emergency response apparatus.
Effectively communicates verbally by means of two-way radio as well as person-to person and in writing through completion of various, records, reports, memos, and letters.
Performs patient evaluations and provided patient treatment to the level of training, including but not limited to spinal immobilization, immobilization of fractures, treatment of illness, providing intravenous procedures, administration of drugs, pain management, cardiac monitoring, and other advanced life support interventions as necessary.
Must have a working knowledge of computers.
Decontaminates ambulance and equipment after treatment or transport of patients.
Maintains apparatus, equipment, buildings and grounds and performs other duties as assigned.
Coordinates work with other emergency medical team members, law enforcement, or other fire department staff.
Must maintain calm in stressful and chaotic situations.
Employ strong moral and ethical standards, must perform his/her duties in a manner that reflects positively on the Borough and the department and maintains a level of professional expertise and image that promotes efficient use of the resources available to the department.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Must work in all weather conditions, at nights, during weekends and on various shift configurations which may include extended tours of duty; be able to perform arduous tasks; meet department health and physical fitness standards; and perform tasks under adverse conditions.
Must be able to hear.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision (able to distinguish colors on slides, plans, illustrations, and other graphic representations), peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell.
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and lifting. Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times with or without assistance.
Requirements
LICENSES:
At time of hire must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the Borough insurance carrier.
At time of hire must be certified by the State of Alaska as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or must hold national registered paramedic licensure with current authorization to work in Alaska
