The Wexner Center for the Arts, within the Office of Academic Affairs seeks a Gallery Educator. This position is part of the teaching, learning and interpretation team of Educators in the department of Learning & Public Practice. The Educator will work collaboratively to develop and implement inquiry based guided tours and gallery experiences featuring exhibitions, permanent installations, architecture, and interdisciplinary subjects throughout the Wexner Center for the Arts. The Educator will participate in on-going training around exhibition content, contemporary cross-cultural topics, and interpretation strategies for engaging with the general public, university, and K-12 audiences. The Educator will be expected to prioritize Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access and complete ongoing training and development in this area.
In consultation with the Teaching, Learning and Interpretation Manager, this position is responsible for developing audience centered tours, maintaining a tour schedule, and participating in training sessions. Educators will regularly participate in coaching and evaluation practices. The Educator will join Learning & Public Practice colleagues in maintaining existing tour programs where they are still effective and proposing and developing new programming where opportunities are presented.
Specific programmatic responsibilities will include leading a minimum number of tours per year, mandatory training sessions, quarterly tour scheduling, planning of tours with other Educators, ongoing coaching and shadowing of tours, and occasional meetings. Availability during gallery hours is required including weekdays and occasional evenings and weekends. Schedule will vary depending upon tour requests. Ability to pass a background check is required.
Experience: No previous experience required
Qualifications
Strong public engagement, communication, organizational, and customer service skills required. Interest in engaging with Contemporary art. Desire and ability to work collaboratively. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to and proficiency in diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion practices. Formal or informal teaching experience preferred. Previous experience in a museum, nonprofit, learning setting, teaching, community engagement role or similar environment encouraged.

Ability to engage in the galleries for extended periods of time. Ability to maintain an expected level of professional and ethical conduct as a representative of the Wexner Center for the Arts. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills; enthusiastic and approachable, creative, professionalism in engaging with the community, ability to foresee, evaluate, and respond effectively to complex circumstances and conditions; a willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve; strong initiative; a demonstrated customer service mindset.

Duties and Responsibilities
35% – Lead group tours (including initial shadowing period)
30% – Tour planning (including study time and planning with other educators
20% – Training
10% – Tour scheduling
5% – Additional meetings as required
Weekly Hours: 2-10 but varies throughout the month/year
Position starting in late May to early June
The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 – $25.00
