Job Description : Job Description:Position serves in two different roles on a rotation basis as often and as needed: rider and stay-back. Riders ensure the safety of our guests while leading them on the horseback ride. Stay-backs do chores around the ranch while groups are on the trail. All positions provide guests with accurate, quality information and play a major role in making sure guests are completely satisfied with their experience.MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensures guests experience the “E.X.C.U.R.S.I.O.N. of a lifetime” by being attentive to the needs and/or wants of the guests, making self available to answer any and all questions guests may have throughout the excursion, and notifying management of unhappy guests and/or obtaining guests’ information for management to contact themAssures the safety of the guests by performing the following (but not limited to): reviewing safety guidelines with the guests, assisting guests with mounting & dismounting, properly securing horses to hitching rails, and enforcing the company’s safety policiesMonitors the safety of both guests & horses at all timesProvides general horse care to include, but not limited to, the following: feeding, watering, and brushing horses, as well as, scooping manurePerforms chores at horseback ranch to include, but are not limited to, the following: pulling, saddling, and tacking horses; and maintaining & cleaning guest areas (including bathrooms)Puts all tack away at the end of the day assuring it is clean and in good repair as well as reporting any issues to managementCommunicates accurate information to the appropriate staff when required and as needed (radioing in to horseback ranch, radioing to the office when appropriate, communicating with the dock, etc.)Immediately reports any horses’ health issues to the horseback ranch managerResponsible for adhering to the timing of the tour (including before and after)ALL POSITIONS IN COMPANY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:Adhering to all company policiesStriving to accomplish goals discussed with management during the monthly evaluationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of horseback careKnowledge of horseback equipment (including tack)Ability to interpret horse behaviorExcellent communication skills that demonstrate a professional demeanor and the ability to interact with others with discretion and tactSkilled in guest attentiveness as demonstrated by responsiveness to the needs and wants of our guestsAbility to memorize, recall, and present information and factsAbility to make oral presentations that engage an audience in a professional, clear, concise, and entertaining mannerAbility to adapt presentations and/or interactions with guests to meet the needs and/or expectations of people from various backgroundsAbility to initiate interaction with guestsAbility to work with little supervision in both a team environment and independentlyAbility to maintain a positive attitude at all times even when dealing with difficult people and while encountering stressful situationsAbility to be safety orientedAbility to see potential problems and react positivelySkilled in punctuality as demonstrated by consistently adhering to the timing of the tourENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Frequent work is performed outside, so position will frequently be subject to possible adverseweather conditions and variations in temperatureMay occasionally be subject to different odors throughout the day to include, but is notlimited to, horse manureQUALIFICATIONS:Must be at least 18 years of ageMust possess current driver’s licenseMust be able to work varied shift hoursDemonstrates proficiency in horseback riding and horseback vet careAt least 5 years of intermediate horseback ridingPHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB:Position involves frequent sitting in the saddle and walking (usually at least 2.5 hours a day but no more than 7.0 hours a day is spent performing each of these activities)Position involves occasional standing (usually no more than 2.5 hours a day)Must be able to lift and carry buckets weighing up to 40lbs for a distance of 200 feet (usually no more than 30 minutes a day is spent performing this activity)Must be able to lift saddles/tack weighing up to 30lbs onto a horse’s back which may be 5 ½ feet high.Note: The statements in this document are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees.
