Fairfax County’s Department of Procurement and Materials Management (DPMM) Materials Management Division is seeking an Inventory Manager to monitor, report, and maintain an inventory system for a wide range of inventory housed at multiple locations managed by the Logistics Services Center. Accurate monitoring of inventory is crucial to the department allowing for prompt service to our customers, avoiding shelf-life expirations, as well as minimizing excessive space needs for motionless materials. Inventories consist of both long- and short-term holdings requiring frequent tracking to assure compliance with predetermined space agreements.
This position also is deputy to our Logistics Center Manager requiring knowledge in warehouse safety, managing staff, and daily logistical operations. Schedule: Position participates in events which may occur outside of normal business hours.
Illustrative Duties • Manages a complex inventory and procurement system • Prepares reports and analyzes inventory turnover • Identifies parts, equipment and/or materials to be added or deleted to inventory system • Directs the investigation and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies • Inspects and analyzes questionable receipts • Oversees the department’s cycle counting program to include conducting spot checks, coordinating audits, and recommending improvements to balance inventory • Prepares and analyzes significant changes • Administers the cataloging programs to include proper item identification • Trains warehouse staff in proper inventory management procedures • Uses software to monitor demand and document characteristics of inventory • Devise ways to optimize inventory control procedures • Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure business goals are being met • Report to upper management on stock levels, issues, etc. • Assure safety protocols are being always adhered to • Provide safe operation of Material Handling Equipment.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work and three years of experience in a centralized supply and purchasing program.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain Forklift Safety Training Certificate within six months of hire date.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, pre-employment physical, driver’s license check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent oral communication and customer service skills. Evidence of successful, progressive, and entrepreneurial leadership. Knowledge and experience in managing inventories, staff, and familiarities with working in a warehouse environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work is performed in a warehouse setting and may require carrying and lifting to 50 pounds. The work is typically performed while sitting with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
