Job Description : JOB/POSITION TITLE: Manager of Community Outreach
STATUS: Exempt
Primary Purpose: The Manager of Community Outreach will work to build community engagement around outreach programs; will be the primary liaison to social service partners and rescue partners serving houseless and low-income pet owners; and will manage the Hawaiian Humane Society’s outreach services, surrender prevention and spay/neuter initiatives islandwide.
Reports To: Director of Community Engagement
Supervises: Outreach Coordinator, Outreach Assistant, Volunteers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Personal, Program and Organizational Improvements. Support and advise on programs for pets of people in targeted areas including, but not limited to pets of people without homes. Create new initiatives involving outreach programs to those who are low-income and/or are unsheltered pet owners, as well as other outreach programs as needed. Advise organizational leadership on trends and best practices related to community outreach, pet food bank, temporary housing support, rescue relations and overall strategic community engagement direction. Maintain current outreach programs such as Pet Kokua, the Pet Loss Support Group and Pet Visitation.
Create and manage relations with human service agencies, animal rescue partners serving houseless and low-income pet owners and other community organizations to advance programs, develop collaborative approaches and foster mutually beneficial relationships. Support Hawaiian Humane’s disaster response function as an alternate emergency contact for the City Department of Emergency Management.
Statistical and Financial Management. Analyze database and statistics for all outreach programs in both Excel and shelter data base systems. Work to continuously monitor the success of outreach programs and implement changes as necessary. Track department budget. Manage grant data and reporting to ensure that the outreach program remains in compliance with grant terms.
Interdepartmental Communications. Collaborate with Communications, Advocacy, Development, Spay/Neuter Center and Operations teams to maximize program awareness. Contribute ideas for internal and external improvements to the organization.
Train and engage staff and volunteers to assist with community outreach events and initiatives.
People and Animal Care. Provide excellent customer care to both internal and external stakeholders. Express compassion when interacting with the public either in person or on the phone. Answer questions from the public and volunteers concerning the outreach program or education program in a timely, professional and courteous manner. Treat all animals safely, humanely and with compassion.
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Support Hawaiian Humane Society Education, Advocacy and Communications Programs

JOB CONDITIONS:
Work Environment: Indoors and outdoors
Equipment Use: Occasional use of Hawaiian Humane Society and personal vehicles. PC computer, digital camera, printer, copier, telephone
Work Hours: Based on operational requirements. Must be available full-time with flexibility for evenings, weekends and holidays.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
Must maintain and present personal conduct, personal appearance and office space as a professional. Includes well-groomed and professional appearance and tidy office areas
Must exercise compassion, patience, professionalism, flexibility and tact when dealing with a broad range of volunteers and the public including difficult, emotional or angry people
Must have a flexible disposition to work with and engage a variety of clients, volunteers, supporters and donors
Must be committed to behaving in an ethical manner
Must be committed to developing a deep knowledge of progressive animal welfare issues
Must have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced office and work with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reporting and editing ability and some experience in presentations.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must agree with and be committed to Society goals, objectives and programs.
Must have the ability to engage proactively and cooperatively with governmental, community, and animal welfare stakeholders.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Skills/Knowledge: Requires computer literacy and knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong organization and project management skills required. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of no-fault insurance required.
Education/Training: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in the relevant field preferred
Experience: 4 years of outreach experience preferred. 2 years of staff and volunteer management preferred.
