Job Description : *Overview*One of the best things about being on the Animal Encounters team is that no two days are alike but all include the same basic elements- caring for animals and engaging with guests! A large portion of some part of the day will be spent caring for a range of species that help to make up the the Animal Programs department collection. Just a few of the animals you could provide husbandry for are macaws, opossums, servals, penguins, ball pythons, even hissing cockroaches!Our morning husbandry includes cleaning exhibits as well as back of house habitats, making enrichment, and prepping diets. Be part of guest engagement by assisting with presentations focusing on a range of topics such as African animals, animal adaptations, and birds. You will also be able to participate in providing VIP tours. During these tours, guests will be able to meet some of the stars of the Animal Encounters Village while they demonstrate natural behaviors and will be able to talk with their trainer in a person setting of the Encounters Village. During both of these interactions you will assist by catching and releasing animals from back stage and could even have the opportunity to speak in a show or tour after being trained. Once the zoo closes for the day all of our ambassadors need settled for the night during our evening husbandry routines.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for care and handling of Animal Programs animals and upkeep of their facilities within acceptable safety protocols.May conduct and assist with on-grounds encounters, tours, and shows at the Animal Encounters Village at Adventure Cove.Observes and sometimes assists in the training of Animal Programs collection.Writes daily reports.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsMust be at least 19 years old.High school diploma or equivalent required.One year completed towards a bachelor’s degree preferred.BA/BS in animal related field preferred.Must be outgoing and willing to talk to many different types of people.Excellent public speaking skills.Valid driver’s license with good driving record.New-Hire TB testing required.Able to work as a team with other staff members.Able to perform heavy physical work for extended periods of time.Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain).Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Able to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.Able to maintain appropriate employee appearance (see uniform guidelines in the employee handbook).Able to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.Subject to BMV check.Subject to Drug Free Workplace Policy.Subject to Criminal Background check.Ability to work 40 hours/week Memorial Day-Labor Day, potential to start before Memorial DayJob Type: Temporary
