Description of Job
Seasonal Recreation Rangers educate the public on responsible recreation and patrol our State
Parks Dispersed Camping Areas. They perform a wide variety of jobs, and most work is conducted outside in all seasons and weather conditions. Recreation Rangers work where everyone comes to play! They wear many hats because of the diversity of the state’s geography, visitors, and recreational opportunities. These hats vary from patrolling in vehicles, watercraft, or by foot, doing educational programs, conducting surveys and administrative work.
Recreation Rangers will provide personal education to recreation users; helping them understand how to recreate in fun, safe, and sustainable ways. While interacting with the recreational users the Rangers will collect visitor survey data.
Recreation Rangers are responsible for collecting campsite data using the Campsite Collector App, performing general park maintenance and cleaning of fire rings, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.
The Rangers will assure quality customer service, provide information and assistance to visitors. May assist with sign installation, carpentry, and transporting materials and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration.
Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) is a river-based state park that encompasses 152 miles of river corridor between Leadville and Lake Pueblo State Park. AHRA is co-managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Forest Service. The Arkansas River is the most commercially rafted river in the United States. The most common activities in the park are river rafting (commercial and private), kayaking, fishing, camping, sightseeing, hiking, mountain biking, and gold panning.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
This position requires operation of a motorized vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Willing to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather.
Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
Knowledge of power tools and hand tools preferred.
Using computers to enter data, and write reports.
Must be able to supply some uniform items.
First Aid and CPR certifications may be required.
Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Effective September 20, 2021, employees will be required to attest to and verify
whether or not they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Employees who have not been
fully vaccinated may be required to submit to serial testing in the future. Upon hire,
new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status
with proof of vaccination. Vaccinated employees must provide proof of vaccination.
NOTE: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series
of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two (2) weeks
after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, as defined
by the most recent State of Colorado’s Public Health Order and current guidance
issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
