JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision performs wildlife and biology research and review in the field and office. Oversees planning wildlife and natural resource planning and evaluation of activities to promote development, conservation, and responsible use of open space, trails and parks in Pinal County consistent with the department’s goals and objectives.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Represents Pinal County in planning efforts associated with developing, evaluating, and implementing plans and projects for natural resources.
Assists Pinal County in implementation of the County Comprehensive Plan and the Open Space and Trails Master Plan.
Works within the framework of existing County codes and plans and in collaboration with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, federal land managers, private land owners, developers, and other stakeholders, to implement projects and plans within Pinal County that enhance wildlife habitat and resources and mitigate impacts.
Works with developers, land management agencies, and other stakeholders to support the County’s mission.
Develops and/or evaluates project concepts, proposals, proposed actions, management plans, NEPA documents, environmental assessments, and prepares and presents results verbally and in writing.
Organizes, facilitates, and participates in stakeholder groups, public and professional meetings and interdisciplinary teams.
Evaluates and formulates plans and recommendations for conservation and enhancement of fish and wildlife habitat and mitigation of impacts to those resources.
Requests and interprets information from the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Heritage Data Management System and Environmental Review Tool.
Conducts independent reviews, site assessments, and monitoring of projects and land management activities.
Interprets, manages, and analyzes GIS spatial data in reference to a wide variety of environmental documents.
Negotiates and resolves habitat-related conflicts and other resource issues with federal, state, private, and local agencies and other stakeholders.
Prepares written proposals, technical reviews, briefings, and correspondence representing official County positions, reports and presentations.
Assists County departments in review/evaluation of projects with regard to impacts on riparian areas and threatened and endangered species.
Prepare maps/documents to support grant proposals seeking federal funding.
Tracks projects/actions with a computerized document control system.
May attend conferences and events in support of department goal and objectives.

Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology or closely related field.
Two (2) years of professional work experience in wildlife/natural resources management and/or research.
Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Driver’s License with Arizona Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
Finger print clearance may be required.

Skill in habitat evaluation and project impact analysis.
Skills in PC software for word processing, communication through email and meetings, visual communication, and various software programs for GIS.
Skill in developing and maintaining positive relationships with culturally diverse client population.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Skill in public speaking.
Skill in locating technical information from scientific literature and other sources.
Skill in written communication via technical reports, briefing papers, and formal correspondence.
Ability to perform mitigation strategies to prevent impact to fish and wildlife resources.
Ability to develop and plan programs for conservation and natural resources preservation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Essential functions of this position include: driving, working with and around others, co- workers, clients, agencies, etc., working alone, dealing with interruptions, repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer input and driving, vision acuity (near/far), hearing and speech for ordinary conversation, touch/finger dexterity for computer work, visiting field sites and mobility on uneven terrain.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in both an office setting and field based environment. The typical field based setting requires exposure to inclement weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and natural terrain. Work may include night, weekend and/or holiday shifts.
