Job Description : Domestic Violence Action Center Job Description: Native Hawaiian Family Assistance Counselor (Full-Time, Non-Exempt)Goal To work directly with Native Hawaiian domestic violence survivors and their families in providing advocacy services and support that are culturally appropriate and trauma informed.Desired Qualifications Understanding and awareness of domestic violence, community dynamics and strategies in the Hawaiian community. Organized, good verbal and written communication skills; dependable and ability to meet deadlines. Familiarity with social service agencies on the island of Oahu.Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent and experience working with families who have experienced lived trauma, and endeavoring to overcome barriers, change life patterns, and improve living circumstances. Understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence. Knowledge and be culturally aligned with Native Hawaiian values, cultural traditions and practices. Knowledge about the community resources.Possess good interpersonal skills and critical thinking skills. Flexibility with work schedule.Responsibilities 1. The FAC will conduct assessments of survivors referred to DVAC Ho’oikaika‘Ohana (Ho’o) program and assist clients in development of effective ServicePlans.2. Provide long-term advocacy with survivors who are working to get safe, stay safe, access community resources, improve self and/or parenting to achieve self- sufficiency.3. FAC will provide crisis support and counseling, safety planning and accompaniments to court and community appointments with survivors referred byDVAC programs or community allies.4. FAC wi l l a d v o ca t e o n b e h a l f of clients with all institutions and agencies. FAC will assess when intervention is necessary and will always encourage the client to speak and act on her own behalf.5. FAC will staff DVAC’s Helpline service as assigned by answering Helpline calls, assessing caller needs, and making referrals when appropriate. Advocate will assist in the maintenance of Helpline database.6. Co-Facilitate, when needed, to provide culturally grounded interventions and ensuring weekly lessons are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner according to the specialized curriculum.7. FAC will preserve client confidentiality and adhere to all Ho’o policies regarding timely delivery of program services and client confidentiality.8. FAC will keep upda t ed and current on issues by attending four relevant s u b s t a n t i v e trainings per year for the position and agency.9. FAC will document and keep accurate case summary notes and case files on each client10. FAC will practice good communication skills with DVAC in other agency programs and will document shared client information in person or via e-mail.11. FAC will keep track of statistics of monthly services and submit program services in a timely manner.12. FAC will assume duties as assigned to meet program and agency obje ctives.13. FAC reports directly to the ‘Ohana Program Manager.Non-Exempt Position Rev.
