Job Description : Director of Government AffairsThe Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, a statewide trade association representing the print and digital newspaper industry, is currently recruiting for a full- time Director of Government Affairs. This position monitors political, legislative and regulatory issues affecting the industry, advises the general membership and volunteer leadership of the association concerning these matters, advocates the industry position to local, state and federal government officials and manages the Government Affairs committee of the association.The major responsibilities of the position consist of the following:Maintain a broad understanding of state, local and federal political issues affecting the industry.Research and track legislation impacting the industry in Pennsylvania.Assist in determining positions on public policy/legislation and communicate these positions to local, state and federal officials.Broaden members’ awareness and promote advocacy of policy positions through newsletters, calls-to-action, social media and presentations at board meetings, membership meetings, trainings or other speaking opportunities.Maintain, manage and develop relationships with stakeholder organizations.Coordinate and execute issues-based campaigns.Manage government affairs staff and outside lobbying firm’s contract.Provide lobbying support and other activities as needed to national associations representing industry.The successful candidate will have:A bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration or a related field.5+ years experience in government affairs and/or trade associations.Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans for achieving public policy objectives.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members and government officials.Compensation is commensurate with experience.
