Job Description : Job SummaryCompany OverviewOne of only 17 hotels located on Kalakaua Avenue, Waikiki Gateway Hotel was built in 1972 as the first Hyatt (“Hyatt Lodge”) in Hawaii. Recently under new management, the Property is undergoing multi-million dollar renovation and will be rebranded next year. Looking for motivated team members interested in ground floor opportunity to experience the redevelopment of the hotel into one of the top destination boutique hotels in Waikiki.GoalHawaii has a lot to offer, the weather, the beaches, the food, the mountains and most of all our people. Our goal is to offer guests a memorable experience by being their advocate during their stay in our Hotel.PrerequisitesAbility to receive and give instructions and respond to guest concerns in English both verbally and in writing.Possess knowledge and competency in the following: basic hand/power tool operation, ETC…Scheduling flexibility: all shifts and hours.Essential FunctionsAssists in Supervising, develops and maintains an ongoing engineering operation for the Hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, air/heating units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.Assists on an ongoing and regular basis, inspects and evaluates physical condition of entire Hotel asset, including all guestrooms, public areas, pool area; completes and retains inspection reports on a regular and timely basis, utilizing company inspection forms.Performs work within departmental expense plans.Assists in maintaining hotel by performing painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related facility activities.Assists in ordering material and completes work assignments on time and by a specified date.Assists in evaluating vendors with Director of Operations and selects vendors that are reliable, honest and provide good value for their price.Assists with maintaining both the exterior and interior of the hotel, including painting, cleaning, aesthetic repairs and additions.Assists with overseeing the maintenance of landscaping, exterior flowers and plants by both outside vendors and hotel team members.Assists with scheduling repairs and maintenance with the Director of Operations in order to minimize impact on hotel operations.Assists with overseeing ongoing and emergency repairs requires to keep the hotel, restaurant and public areas in a marketable condition at all times.Assists with responsibilities for safety and fire training of managers and oversees the training of all team members in emergency and safety procedures.Assists with the Safety Committee Chair.Assists with maintaining and updating the SDS sheets to insure the safety of team members using hazardous chemicals.Assists with seeking out cost reduction methods, which do not negatively impact guest’s perceptions of the hotel.Assists with facility department overtime to a minimum, while ensuring adequate coverage for the Hotel as well as obtaining prior approval from the Director of Operations overtime is needed.Available to respond to emergencies at all times as needed by phone or in person.Troubleshoots facility problems and determines when to call for outside repairs.Assists with analyzing costs in terms of supplies and labor needed to complete specific projects.Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment so as to increase efficiency of work.Assists in monitoring work performed by outside vendors to insure compliance with safety requirements and local ordinances as well as insuring all Certificates of Insurance or on property prior to beginning of any job. Responsible for engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, hotel property, restaurant and grounds.Secondary FunctionsBoiler mechanic skills.Painting at a professional level with rollers and paint sprayers, including caulking and staining.Installing tile, vinyl and wood flooring.Able to use general power tools and other types of machinery.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesPlan and organize work of the department, communicate goals, and schedule team members insuring proper coverage within budgeted guidelines.Ensure all team members are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.Educate/train team members on current safety issues to ensure compliance with all federal state and local laws and safety regulations.Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.Maintain and repair the interior and exterior of buildings, hotel rooms and contents.Ensure the execution and achievement of the hotel’s preventive maintenance program goals.Monitor budget and control expenses within all areas of the department.Establish and maintain procedures to: (1) ensure the security of inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, televisions, etc., (2) replenish supplies and inventory in a timely and efficient manner, and (3) to minimize waste.May be responsible for determining the security requirements necessary to ensure that hotel property, team members and guests are protected against theft, crime, and other hazards.May assist with other duties as assigned.QualificationsAt least two years of hospitality engineering experience required.Specialties preferred including the following: electrical HVAC, pool, drywall/paint/wallpaper, preventative maintenance, plumbing, landscaping, fire safety, kitchen equipment.COMPUTER SKILLS: Should have sufficient computer skills that will allow the individual to be able to use, in a proficient manner, certain Company-issued software programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for purposes of communication, ordering supplies, and overall management of facilitating functions.Physical DemandsAbility to perform heavy work – exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.Must be able to work in close spaces, ability to climb, occasionally work outdoors in hot weather for extended periods of time.Work EnvironmentOn Hotel property.Off-site as requested, required.Operation of company vehicle.BenefitsWe are proud to offer the following benefits to our Full-Time employees: * Medical, Dental, Drug, Vision * 401k after one year of service * 7 paid holidays * 2 week vacation after one year of service * 3 days of sick pay (24hrs worth) * Free employee parking * Friends and Family discount * Employee discountJob Type: Full-timeJob Type: Full-timePay: $45,000.00 – $55,000.00 per yearBenefits:401(k) matchingDental insuranceEmployee discountHealth insurancePaid time offSchedule:10 hour shiftDay shiftHolidaysNight shiftWeekend availabilitySupplemental Pay:Bonus payAbility to commute/relocate:Honolulu, HI 96815: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)Experience:Maintenance: 4 years (Preferred)License/Certification:Driver’s License (Preferred)Work Location: One location
