Job Description : Genetic Counseling Assistant
Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated individual with a background in genetics, biology, psychology, or similar fields, who is interested in supporting and learning from genetic counselors to improve patient care and genetic counselor experience in telehealth consults. This individual must have a willingness to learn new material in the area of genetics/genetic counseling, as well as flexibility to handle time-sensitive tasks as they come up. This individual will report directly to the Director of Care Coordination or Lead GC Assistant and work closely with other members of the Genetic Counseling Assistant Team, as well as Genetic Counselors and GC Team leads, to ensure outstanding provider and patient experiences.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
Prepare genetic counseling summary reports for appointments with our genetic counseling team.
Ensure appropriate documents needed for consultations are collected prior to the consultation.
Contact patients prior to appointments to collect personal and/or family history information; this will include drawing 3 generation pedigrees through pedigree drawing software.
Work with the genetic counseling team to manage prior authorization cases.
Take on other miscellaneous projects as needed
Attend informational meetings as needed to learn new material
Escalate cases and triage to other departments when appropriate
Ensure compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations with all parties encountered in the process.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in genetics, biology, psychology, or related fields
Excellent organizational and task management skills
Exceptional written & verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a remote clinical environment independently
US-based
Full time employment (not exceeding 40 hours per week)
Flexibility for some weekend coverage (approximately 10 hours per month, with time during the week adjusted so that total does not exceed 40 hours per week)
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to speak additional languages is beneficial, but not required.
Experience in customer service roles preferred
Experience with genetics, genetic counseling, or other clinical work preferred
