Job Description : The CDC Foundation is working with CDC and state and local authorities to provide surge staff to support surveillance, prevention and response activities within the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program. The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a Laboratory Scientist. The position will support opioid/overdose sample collection and toxicology testing in a forensic toxicology laboratory setting.This position is located with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Raleigh, North Carolina.Job Highlights: Position Title: Laboratory ScientistLocation: RemoteEnd Date: 7/31/2022Salary: $45,000-$55,000 with BenefitsQualifications: Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology required. Preference given to those with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or Forensic Science, and successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/ Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. at the time the degree was obtained.Previous full-time experience working in a clinical laboratory setting with experience on at least some of the specified equipment.Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate in a positive and professional manner. Ability to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines.Strong technical and analytical skills should include spreadsheet development and management and database management.Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Zoom.Responsibilities: Assists with forensic testing using ELISA screening, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, and related instrumentation.Receive, track, store and prepare body fluids, tissue, and other substances for testing in the laboratory setting.Maintains a secure chain-of-custody of evidence.Contributes to maintenance of medical laboratory supplies and inventory, as requested.Support laboratory data analysis, in an effort to identify trends, anomalies and other indicatorsMaintain Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) at all times.Other duties as assigned and requested.Special Notes: This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in order to best support the Division of Public Health in their public health programming.The CDC Foundation requires all employees to be fully vaccinated* for COVID-19 as a condition of employment effective November 22, 2021.
