POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Public Communications (PC) Director, the role of the Public Communications Specialist is to work directly with Maniilaq staff in order to help create thoughtful visual and written messages that support the mission of Maniilaq Association through the use of various communication tools that are directed to internal and external audiences. Team work is key to the success of this department. While the incumbent’s primary responsibility is for work relating to graphic design/website creation and management, this person will assist the PC Director with duties as workload dictates. Design opportunities include a wide range of marketing communications for print (advertising, program promotions, collateral, etc.) and online (emails, corporate website support/maintenance, banners, etc.) for Maniilaq Association.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interviews internal clients and write news releases, articles, editorials, publications, and other written communications pieces. Writes content for the website and social media that’s directed to internal and external audiences under the guidance of the PC Director.
Support the PC Director in the development and refinement of Maniilaq’s messaging to ensure organizational consistency.
With the support of the PC Director, work closely with Maniilaq staff to implement organization and program priorities through development of effective outreach materials, event planning and promotion, networking and media relations.
Under the supervision of the PC Director, help to steer internal and external communications, including, but not limited to the creation and supervision of website maintenance, brochure development, advertising and public relations campaigns for all media and public presentations.
Works with PC Director on creating videos for various Maniilaq departments.
Performs administrative functions related to the general operation of PC.
Works with PC staff to carry out daily tasks.
Job Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. Skilled in technical or news writing, editing and preparing publication and other material for print or internet publication. Ability to work well with others and react appropriately under pressure. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and WordPress preferred.
