Job Description : SHORELINE PUBLIC SCHOOLSConfidential-Professional/Technical Job DescriptionTITLE: Public Information OfficerLOCATION: Shoreline CenterHOURS: 40 hrs. per week – FLSA ExemptSALARY: $123,817 as Confidential-Prof Tech Level IVApplications are now being accepted at www.shorelineschools.org/jobs select FastTrack, Click to View Current Job Openings, at the top of the list look for Confidential Prof Tech – Public Information Officer (PIO) #220301001.The Public Information Officer is responsible for management of Shoreline School District’s public information, outreach strategies, development and maintenance of community partnerships.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPublic Information· Responsible for handling internal and external communications, acting as the liaison with school principals, family and communication committees at schools, and working to determine, manage and improve communication policy regarding broadcast and print media.· Write and disseminate press releases and act as liaison with media.· Manage content of Shoreline Schools website and social media.· Produce internal communications for staff and a variety of other publications for parents, students, staff, and the community.· Produce regular and time-sensitive communications for staff, families, and community.· Develop and implement coordinated publicity plans, including internal and external public information documents such as press releases, new highlights for websites, district calendars, staff newsletters and photographs.· Set up, support and manage technology related to virtual streaming of school board meetings.· Communication of levy and bond information.Community Relationships and Partnerships· Develop and maintain relationships with local media.· Write and produce media content that supports the goal of providing district families and the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park communities with accurate and timely information about the school district.· Work closely with parent and community groups to develop publications which help parents understand the school district (e.g., communications advisory).· Plan and manage district-sponsored community events.· Support parent and community involvement in schools in ways that positively impact student learning and achievement.· Establish new and maintain strong existing partnerships, and represent the school district, Board and Superintendent within community and school groups.Emergency Preparedness· Maintain the emergency communication list for the school district, and act as one of the liaisons with city departments regarding emergency communications.· Manage emergency communications for school district operations.· Play a critical role in disseminating timely information to the public and serving as the communications hub during emergencies and crises.Other· Attends Superintendent’s Staff (cabinet) meetings.· Attend board meetings and such other meetings as directed by the Superintendent.· May be required to attend evening or weekend events.· Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.· Advises Superintendent on a variety of topics including communication and messaging of controversial and sensitive issues.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPThis position reports directly to the Superintendent.QUALIFICATIONS· Experience processing information through an equity lens and promoting a district’s or organization’s vision, philosophy and initiatives relating to diversity, equity and inclusion.· Proficient knowledge of: leadership and crisis management; written and verbal communication; presentation skills and use of on-line resources.· Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and InDesign.· Knowledge of public school district systems and structures preferred.· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or other related disciplines.
