Position : Sexual Assault Victim Specialist
Job Description : Description
The Sexual Assault Victim Specialist provides direct services and acts as a point of contact to crime victims and is assigned to a court division. The position requires coordination and contact with sexual assault victims to offer emotional support, information about victim’s rights and the criminal justice system, diversion/restorative justice process, and support agency referrals. The position involves gathering, organizing, and validating information from crime victims to prepare the total eligible, financial amounts for restitution. Reports to the Director of Victim Witness.
Work hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm. This position will work at the Justice Center in Boulder, CO. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.
As of December 1, 2021, Boulder County requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or request an approved accommodation within ten days of accepting an offer of employment. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after completion of a two-dose mRNA series or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $49,272.00 – $62,000 Annually
Classification Salary Range: $49,272.00 – $71,052.00 Annually
Examples of Duties
Oversees compliance with the mandates of the Victims’ Rights Act (VRA).
Attends weekly Sexual Assault Review Team meetings
Coordinates and collaborates with community sexual assault and victim services providers
Work with sexual assault survivors to provide referrals to community-based victim services
Documents services and notifications provided to victims and witnesses for VRA compliance and to maintain statistical data.
Provides crisis intervention services that are directed toward de-escalating a situation, establishing physical and emotional safety, providing referrals for basic needs services, and emergency needs.
Reviews police records and identifies victims who are eligible for restitution.
Coordinates with Legal Assistants to request police records as needed.
Initiates telephone, electronic mail, and mail contact to provide accurate and timely case related information victims and determine the amounts of restitution owed.
Documents services and contacts to involved parties.
Accompany victims to court hearings and provide guidance about the criminal justice process
Provide community resources to ensure victims receive wrap around services as needed
Help with submission of Victim Impact Statements to the court
Provides practical explanation of courtroom procedures, general criminal justice process, definitions of legal terminology, and eligible losses under the restitution statute.
Processes affidavits of losses from victims by applying precedents to restitution claims.
Submits the financial losses with supporting documentation to the Deputy District Attorney to review and request the Courts to order the restitution amount.
Assists Deputy District Attorneys in filing motions with the Court to order, amend, or modify restitution.
Ensures that victims are aware of their rights to restitution and aware of the Crime Victims Compensation Program.
Provides Victim Compensation applications as needed.
Notifies victims by telephone, electronic mail, U.S. postal mail, and in person regarding the status of their case, restitution claim and any outstanding supporting documentation required.
Provides appropriate referrals to court collection investigators after restitution was Court ordered.
Creates and maintains electronic files.
Performs data entry to enter a victim name record, financial information to create a Specification of Restitution order, and generates letters and forms to victims.
Manages a high volume of phone and electronic communication with victims, insurance agencies, pro se defendants, court personnel, and defense attorneys.
Works closely as a team with Deputy District Attorneys, Victim Witness Specialists, Legal Assistants, and Diversion Case Managers.
Effectively works with time-sensitive deadlines for restitution requests.
Appears and testifies at restitution hearings as needed.
Maintains composure when engaging emotionally complex people with the ability to listen and respond professionally.
Attends and participates in training opportunities made available that directly relate to the services provided by the Victim Witness Unit.
Performs related duties as required
May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well-qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for 6 years of combined education and experience along with a strong emphasis on working with victims of sexual assault. This can include criminal justice, human services, or related experience and education.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK and FINGERPRINTING:
